Description I'd really love to illustrate a monster manual type book some day, but in general, fantasy folks are not big fans of the "animated" style, because heaven forbid, elves shooting lightning out of their hands while riding giant dragonflys should ever look unrealistic. For me, it's impossible to picture the world of 4E in any realistic manner, especially since EVERY attack has a name that almost demands to be screamed out when used, like some kind of weaboo cartoon character.

Yeesh, don't know where that venom came from. Ignore all that. I just wanted to draw some distinct kobolds, toss some character and variation into the looks of one of my favorite D&D critters.

I hate Kobolds. Every campaign I've played they've always seemed to destroy my party with ridiculously lucky rolls. Especially because our DM never gets good rolls. Except with freaking Kobolds.

Dang, I always feel bad for killing the little guys, thy are kinda cute, and they die so easily.

They should. Ours always seem to be super Kobolds.

I think I'd prefer a more animated style for a fantasy bestiary based on a game. It just makes them more lively.

The guy with the two swords/knifes looks ready to kick some ass. I think the last two are about to duke it out!

Haha, I guess they are sizing each other up, though that poor green one doesn't have any weapons, so it might not be a fair fight.

I love this style, it's like Looking for Group with all the colors, very awesome!

I'd prefer this over realism anyday.
You are right about that.

I think the only company that can get away with realism and
extreme fantasy/ weabooness is Square Enix.

Take heart, there are lots of us who love your cartoon style. Unfortunately, it's those who don't like something that always speak up. :/

Thanks. It bums me out whenever more cartoony art enters D&D, and the fan-rage that follows.

I really liked your Thri-Kreen. I wouldn't mind seeing your interpretation of a few more "monster" monsters like the Owlbear or Kruthik!

I'm sure more monster manual classics will find themselves in my gallery.

Awesome as usual, I think ill make a Kobold character next time i play haha. But don't generalize! There are plenty of people who love the more stylized art for fantasy settings

Venom comes from the Spiderman Comic

Anyway, your drawing looks awesome I would watch this cartoon, if it was made (and not as awful as the original D&D cartoon... *shivers*)

Thanks!
I got the box set of the cartoon last Christmas. I forgot that absolutely every line was shouted. Those kids were really the worst adventuring party ever.

Excellent illustrations!

Although 4E D&D, sorry, isn't D&D. It's a bad video game put to paper. The classic versions (2.0/3.0/3.5) of D&D are what real D&D is about.

I agree, 4E is a terrible RPG, but a really fun small scale, co-op wargame.

I hear that. They made a mistake marketing it as an rpg when it clearly isn't. I picked up 2 sets of their new dungeon command game, which is exactly a fantasy skirmish wargame, without all that fiddly roleplaying getting in the way. Got myself the core pathfinder books too.

The dungeon command sets look pretty neat, my friend picked up the first two, though the paint jobs are just terrible. I may have to pick up the goblin set though, and give it a try.

I want the goblin set too. There's also an orc set coming out in a few months.

art-wise in manual books I roll both ways, as long as it is good and consistent.

The Kobolds look fantastic
