Description New OC time!

Missis Juliet Julia Eleanor Wright
Mister Henry James Newman
1945

Can't tell much on the off chance that a fellow player sees this prematurely.

I AM, however, kinda annoyed at how my ability to draw on my own seems to be going down rather than up. I'm getting a lot better at facial features and working off references but doing stuff on my own, with traditional media, is getting more difficult and that discourages me from drawing in my notebook.

I need more practice I think.

This looks awesome! Great use of bounce lighting, shading and just everything! The smoke too is very well done!

Nice work! I like how realistic their face features and skin texture look (if I look into the distance, it feels like I was looking at real 40's photographs). Their outfits and hands look very realistic too, and the sepia tone work well.
About your last paragraph... I feel for you :/. I happen to have the exact same issue (in my case, the extensive use of those easy digital drawing tools is the culprit. It made me loose both the firm pen grip and "line control" needed for traditional drawing).

Thank you. That's nice of you to say. I don't really get how the skin texture looks realistic but it's still a great compliment. XD

I feel for you as well. For me the pen grip and line control aren't issues anymore because we get a lot of drawing classes at art college but I can already kinda feel some sort of a change sneaking in from digital art. Overdependance on references and a sort of fear of drawing traditionally because of the lack of undo button are my main issues. And I know digital art ruined my ability to draw a single, continuous line I started doing everything with lots of short, sketchy strokes because that way I wouldn't accidentally lose a ton of work after a mistake by pressing the undo button. I've been trying to re-learn that particular skill for two years and made some progress thanks to croqui classes.

Wow, the things you described in your second paragraph also apply to me. Especially the "short strokes instead of continuous line" thing. I wonder if those issues (or should I rather say, those changes in drawing habits?) are common to most digital artists...

Anyway: I think the skin texture looks realistic because of the slight, well-placed variations in values. It helps in defining volumes (I don't know how to explain it better That's why I'm shy when it comes to commenting on deviations.)
