I've actually been waiting for a day when I have a couple of extra hours to sit down and read the whole thing from beginning to end - looks like today will be good.

Thanks for that. I put a lot of work into this comic, and I often have serious doubts as to whether I should keep working on it. The comic doesn't really have a built-in audience. It doesn't have a pure manga style or feature superheroes or a babe as the central character, isn't fan fiction, or appeal to a certain demographic or subculture. That means I'm working from scratch here.

I think the same could be said for "Maus" or "Lenore" or "V for Vendetta" - they each have unusual styles and characters and don't follow the crowd manga-wise. Opey is a surprisingly touching and deep body of work with a sense of humour.

Manga-anime has definately been an influence on me ever since I was a kid, and it's fun for me to draw purely in that style once in a while.
