The Hua Hin Kukri Snake is a colubrid that has been discovered in fairly recent times and was being first described in 2017. This snake is endemic to the Hua Hin district in Thailand; all specimens that were found from this species were male, suggesting that these snakes were collected at a time that corresponds with mating season (as males tend to actively look for females). It is also possible that this highly secretive snake has only a short activity peak during the year, which may be the reason why it hasn't been discovered earlier.

The Hua Hin Kukri Snake is nonvenomous and, according to the researchers who handled this snake, not prone to bite. Though it does resemble the typical Kukri Snake in physique, it can be noted for the lack of distinct patterns (like the chevron/heart-shaped marking on the head) which is otherwise quite common to find in Kukri Snakes.

Both the common and latin name of this species honours the Thai city Hua Hin, where this snake was being found.
