Beautiful photo. I am carving a kestrel and after 25 hours of work messed up the beak and head so I had to start all over. I did the preliminary work on the head last night on the new one. Hopefully this photo will help me get it right this time.

Thank You that sucks you have to start over again, my Dad used to carve and hated it when something like that happened.

This is the first time for me. I almost saw it coming because the head didn't seem quite right. Hopefully I won't mess it up again this time.

Seeing the image i would agree, knowing the bird though I know different, she really was a friendly bird, unfortunately and according to the vet she died of a heart attack a month after I took this shot

I'm sorry to hear that. That seems to be the way they go; I guess they're too highly strung. There's a shopkeeper in Windsor Great Park who has swans pecking on his door every morning. One of them died on Jan 1st, also a heart attack. Worryingly the father has since fathered a new clutch with the daughter from his last!!!

Nice photograph. I love kestrels. I like how you can see the reflection of clouds in her eyes.

Great capture, only the eye is a bit out of focus. What camera do you use?

Thanks Tomasz, yes the eye is out of focus i was just so excited to get in close for the shot i got carried away.

Camera used was a Fuji s7000.

Excellent detail. I'd personally prefer the eye to be the sharpest point of focus though.

It seems i had focused in on her beak, add to that a very shallow dof, Thanks for the comments

Interesting photo. Though I don't know if it's the focus or not, but the left side from about half-eye on seems to be a little blurred for some reason...

But other than that, it's very nice. Great amount of detail, particularly with the textures and wear you can see along her beak. You can even see quite well into her nose.
