Yeah. . . anything slashy that comes out of Jhonen stuff is just. . .well, I can't think of a good word for it. Besides, Zim is totally asexual. Totally.

You know, I never really could get into Zim slash. There's just something inherently whacked about Jhonen-verse romance in general, subtext or no. Or perhaps I've just been ruined by all the godawful fanfiction I found in my first few months in the fandom.
But Zim's an unabashed sadist, and Dib may as well be masochistic from all the years of getting mangled in the name of SCIENCE, so who knows? omgtheirloveissotorturous. And stuff.

I never thought I'd be able to contemplate romance in anything connected to Jhonen Vasquez either, but then I spent about two weeks watching every episode of Invader Zim. There are only so many times Dib can wander off alone with creepy older guys, and only so much obsession with another sentient being, and only so much bizarre codependence a person can observe before they crack a little.
There is a lot of terrible IZ fanfiction, though. "Zim knew that he had been in love with Dib all along! It was just another facet of his hatred! And stuff! Plus GIR was always screamin'! Screamin' like a monkey! Also: tentacle rape!"
Then they turn into piles of mushy goo.
