Description Taken a couple weeks back on the Timboon rail trail, one of the bridges from a now derelict and mostly dismantled branchline in the Otway Ranges. It was the last of the 4 Otways lines to be closed and lasted until the late 70's (1977?) when the service was called off and the line was dismantled 10 years later in the late 80's. Due to the difficult access into the area (and the dismantling crew not being allowed to cross 'condemned' bridges back when they were pulling it up) there is a section of track left layed through the forest and over the bridge , an eerie reminder of what once was.

A vast majority of the branchlines (some 90% or more) in Victoria were closed in the 70's and 80's as road transport took over. Timboon is but one of these lines, some of its relics left abandoned and forgotten to decay on their own

Apologies for the unprofessional photo, I have 0 motivation points to learn editing programs and make it look 'nice and presentable' so here, have it fresh off the camera instead

There was an abandoned stretch of track in Glenwood Springs, Colorado that I used to love visiting in my spare time. I don't know if it's still there. Excelent picture.

Thanks! Hopefully it is, abandoned infrastructure has a really nice charm about it

Thanks, there's a lot of dismantled lines around the country so it could be anywhere, todays railways are but a shadowy 50% (guesstimate) of what they used to be unfortunately

Yeah, for example here's Victoria's system at present: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…

And is is what it was in the 1940's: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…

This reminds me much of when them Royal Navy Razorclaws attacked me and Bellamy in the Den of Thieves with the rest of the civilians. They planned to leave no single poor soul alive. We's had to evacuate the town and burn it to the ground to be escaping with our lives on that fateful day, and it only got worse when we had to fight them airships in the Battle of the Argean Sea. Many a good men were lost that day, and I's will never be able to forget it, not even ten years after the incident. Anyway, ye have taken quite the decent photograph here.Β

I always wondered why that little section survived. They were usually so thorough in taking away everything...

Unfortunately, I wish that they'd just left all the lines mothballed instead of completely obliterated but I guess they wanted some return from them in the end.

At least little relics like this still survive. Only a k or two away there's a huge trestle that's been fully restored too and the rail trail keeps the reservation intact so not all is lost. It'd be nice if there were still trains on it though!
