Description I love listening to the Red-Winged Blackbirds singing their happy song in the marsh near my home.  I actually got to watch this fella feeding a little one hidden under mass of cat-tails.  A could hear him chirping for his parent.

It is a wonderful sound. I hear them often but can rarely catch them with my camera/eye.

Indeed Edie. I count myself very lucky to get to see so many different kinds of birds, in and around our farm yard.

u r for sure....I keep wanting to put up a feeder but hubby is not fond of the mess that comes with it.  So I just watch the one across the way and the squirrels that always try to get at It.  Some manage but since he moved it , it has become more challenging for them.

Edie, I feed only the small black oil sunflower seeds.  I don't have much mess.  I just rake the shells around in the grass, or I turn them into the soil of the flower beds and they compost. The birds are pretty good at cleaning up most of the seeds that fall on the ground so I don't get many germinating.

Yes, it does.  The shell is all black and they are smaller than the stripped sunflower seeds. I have bought them at Walmart, but usually I buy them in bulk from our local veterinarian.

all great birds...hubby is not fond of woodpeckers.....during mating season they go on our roof and hit the flashing on the fireplace(chimmney) for hours and of course its early in the morning while we are sleeping or trying to
