Einiosaurus was named in 1995. Like today's bison, these animals seemed to have lived in herds and they also had a curved horn on the snout. The one species' full name Einiosaurus procurvicornis translates as "buffalo lizard with forward-curving horn". The nasal horn of Einiosaurus was unique, being flattened from side-to-side and with a tip that curved over the end of the snout. In young animals, the horn was short and erect, and as the animal matured, it curved forwards. Like most other members of the centrosaurine group, Einiosaurus lacked brow horns and had either small lumps or rounded pits in their place. The margins of its frill were wavy, and two long spikes projected upwards from the frill's upper border. These spikes were straight, and it is difficult to imagine how they might have functioned in combat.Einiosaurus appears to have been close to the ancestry of Achelousaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus, two centrosaurines that lacked nasal horns altogether and had large bony lumps on their noses instead.
