Description (2010), 9" x 12", Pencil on Paper

This is a companion piece to "My True Mask" [link] which I did in 2006, and which it resembles in composition and overall feel.

"My True Mask" showed Lucius' universe after "Goblet of Fire". "The Price of Failure" shows the outcome of the events of "Order of the Phoenix".

I think I will do a third one for "Deathly Hallows"; the working title: "What Truly Matters".

I am really pleased with how creepy Voldemort turned out in this one, and with Lucius' stunned expression as the prophecy orb disintegrates in his hands...

LOL! That's a funny alternate title. It really is FAIL-Lucius, isn't it?

Captain Hook inspired eyebrows? Well... The only detail that doesn't fit in my opinion. Anyway, good job

LOL! I just like the little kinks in them, even though his "real" brows are broader and more rounded...

The level of detail you can achieve with just pencil and paper is awe-inspiring.
A really beautiful image! I really like the collage effect with the two central
focal points

You're very welcome!
*sniffle* The complicated dance he was doing, he finally missed a step.
When the Prophacy smashed, you can tell by the look on his face that
several expletives are flashing through his mind; quickly followed by
'how do I get out of this mess?!'

Gorgeous composition on this one, too (I'm going to be saying that all night if I keep commenting!). Voldemort is very impressive here - I find the onscreen noseless thing frankly comical, but you manage to make it serious and effective here. But for me, the standout is the main image of Lucius, looking very grave and burdened yet determined. I imagine him here in that moment where he stands between Harry and Bella, where he's trying to negotiate a way out, trying to avoid it turning into all-out war.

Thanks so much! It was a fun challenge to draw something like a film poster collage with different story elements combined. Overall there is a series of three where I wanted to show Lucius' progress from arrogant Death Eater to failure and imprisonment to finally hitting rock bottom and realizing that keeping Draco alive was all that mattered. I love it. It kinda reminds me of Star Wars, almost, with the big bad all menacing in the background, but Lucius is hardly the "hero". You captured their likenesses very well.

Another brilliant one, absolutely !!!
Here, Lucius bears a striking resemblance to Saxon's leadsinger Biff Byford - especially the eyes and eyebrows!
Which is not meant in a negative way - not at all!!!
Saxon is one of my faves.
It's just what came into my mind when I saw this drawing - "Biff!"

This is my favorite piece out of your trio. The composition is spot-on, as are the shading and pencil work. One's eye travels from top to bottom and back again, and even someone who's not read the books or seen the movies (heresy, I know! I need to remedy that) can imagine/understand the story you've portrayed. As always, your clothing and textures are a nearly palpable joy, and this is certainly one of your best portrait pieces. You've captured an interesting face with great detail, being both true to the visage and your own personal style. My only complaint is that the bottom figure of Lucius seems to have a bit of a receding hairline compared to the others, though that may have more to do with the lighting/angle of your reference than any sudden onslaught of hair loss!

Thanks so much! I really loved drawing the whole sequence - though I'm slightly bummed about the way the scan translated Draco's face in the background in the third piece. He looks sort of "coarse" when the original has a much more muted and varied set of shades.

As for the "The Price of Failure" drawing, I agree on the Lucius diving after the broken orb at the bottom - best thing I can think of is that his wig moved some during the action shots, because I swear, he had a humongous forehead in the reference still... I should have quietly amended the movie glitch - LOL!

This is exquisite. Voldie is absolutely nasty looking and Lucius is really delicious. (Well, I usually think that but this is one of your best renditions of him yet methinks.) Really, really nice job.
