Description
Liviu and Tenake, two homeless kids who live in the sewers of Brasov, Romania. During the day they come to the railway station to beg, to steal, to fight and to prostitute themselves. Sometimes they are calm and nice, sometimes they are aggressive and out of control. Most of the kids are ill in some way. Skin diseases from the horrible hygienic condition in the sewers, where they sleep amidst garbage and faeces. Missing fingers or a foot that froze off in winter. Genital diseases from prostitution and rape. Internal diseases from the lack of food and Aurolac, the glue they are high on all day long.When I took this picture they were hanging around in small groups at the railway station. Looking to grab a purse, waiting for the next paedophile. Begging for food and trying to pass time, hopefully getting through another day. The taller boy on the right, Tenake, had just stolen some cigarettes from a tourist. He had attacked me earlier that day, trying to steal my camera, but right now he was enjoying his small victory. Liviu, the other boy, was so high on Aurolac I don't think he knew what he was doing.

They offer hot soup, soap, mental and dental assistance and some clothes to the kids. Now they are gathering funds to build a permanent shelter for the homeless in Brasov. Just the kids, that is.

Retard junkies like these two I am sure that u could find also in New York, Berlin, Sydney and so on.. They aren't that special. We, the others are making them special, using them to for so called "photo-journalistic" reasons and this is WRONG. I am not saying that we should ignore this reality, but I really think that we shouldn't try to became somehow famous.. I don't know if that was the intention of the photographer but I am so sick of this kind of images and its sad conclusion: yes, world, this is Romania! I am surrounded by this creatures, I know what it's like. And yes, Romania it is much more!
So, I am not going to fave this one even it is a good photography. I don't like the message, we shouldn't be proud or expose things like this just because we have them. If I have cancer, I'm not gonna make myself a t-shirt and say that I'm proud to have cancer on it.. That's enough to wear your own cancer, not making it public for the rating reasons.

they live in Romania,but they're not Romanians. these kinds of people ruin our image with every single breath they take. most Europeans think that only gypsies and thieves live in this country. i simply hate them,they move to Italy and France to steal,and they embarrass the REAL romanians,which are not stinky gypsies. grrr....i'm sorry for ranting like this at your picture,i don't know if there's a point but your homeless "Romanians" series of pics made me really angry. i'd just shoot them all,in their balls.

You might keep it in mind that racists say similar things about Romanians (and other country's/cultures) in the UK.
At the end of the day they are people like you or me and deserve to be treated as such.

These are Gypsy children abandoned by their parents who don't use contraception, or some of them ran away from home because of poverty, abuse, etc. There have been trials to put some of them in orphanages in Bucharest, unfortunately they run away every time.

i was born there 2, and i lived there for 13 years and i'm well aware of the situaion, i know there's a lotta ppl like the 2 in the picture, but.. the description makes it sound almost like we're begging for pity.. i'd like to believe there's more to Romania than beggers...
but it's the way i see it, maybe the author didn't mean it in this way..

Please, send me info about that NGO, I'd love to donate + see if there's anything else I could do. I'm so glad you did what you did for them. I'd read a young man's descriptions of life on the streets in Romania, but had hoped things were getting better + not as many young people were still in that sort of lifestyle, but I guess so =/ My heart aches for them.
