Amazing I love how the details of the rocks go back into the photograph to the shioloute of the mountain. Most photographers would of missed that and it would of become dense black.
I have been really liking a lot of night photography as of late...I think its time to blow the dust off of my old film camera and put digital away for a little while

Really impresive photo, and how you managed to work with all the filters and came with such a great photography. I love how the colors are such a great combination a must fav, great work, can I ask you , did you have the idea before shooting the photo or was it in the moment you were there that decided to try?

Your use of filters here is excellent. The way they are tied into the reflection idea, definitely adds to the composition. Someone could have simply tried to take a digital image and manipulate it to this point, but this original film capture really captures the photo in a much better way. Bracketing must have used up quite a few exposures here, but in the end, I think you have it just right. The sillhouetting of the landscape vs. the gradated sky and water is truly amazing. Glad I stumbled across this shot

It's delicious to see this picture. The colors, the black, even the frame. Looks really technical... very clean. Far from being a candid spontaneus shot, but being it totally different, it was pretty well executed.

This is really beautiful...I love how the sky and the water are different colours. Did you just catch it at the right angle for it to be like that or has it been edited? I really like the silhouetted landscape and how deliciously peaceful the scene looks...like the calm before the storm.

Both water and sky had been a warm red for some time, by the time I had set up my tripod the sun had dissappeared behind the ridge and the water immediately turned blue again. I enhanced the colours by adding three cokin filters and overexposing the film (which adds more 'pop' to color negatives), but these enhancements were not that big as they may seem; the colors were amazing.

During the exposures (30 seconds, bracketing a couple of times) I fought long and hard with those Scottish mosquitos; but alas I lost. I guess it was worth it though!

Thanks very much for comment & favorite!

Scottish bugs are evil. They seem to bite harder than all other bugs. I was up North in the summer and got eaten alive even though I was covered in bug spray!

Long exposure stuff is so amazing looking but so damn tricky! I was out tonight trying to get some good photos of Edinburgh at night for a college project but the wind was just ridiculous.

Thanks!

My plan was to upload a rather small image, I guess I didn't want people to be picking over details, but simply enjoy the colors and basic composition... Then again, I see the image I uploaded may be a bit _too_ small, so I'll probably upload a slightly bigger one today or tomorrow. Thanks again!

Beautiful scene captured in a simplistic manner. I like how you have metered for the sky here, leaving all of the land detail to the shadows. It's also nice to see the split between colours - the warmth of the sky, and the coldness of the water. How did you achieve that effect - a filter or photoshop?

elus1v In reply to londonxpress [2005-08-24 10:49:55 +0000 UTC]

I used multiple Cokin filters for the colours. I was really impressed and inspired by your work using these, and I thought I'd give it a try myself, I hope you don't mind. I made sure it did not look all too similar...
I have been using nothing but black and white film for the past months (ever since I replaced my digital p&s by a Nikon F70 and made myself a darkroom), it was nice to use colour for a change. Very different from black and white, and I had to bracket a lot to make sure I'd get the desired result. Another problem was that I only had a very flimsy tripod, and I was worried the wind would move the camera during the 30-second exposures... That, and the mosquitos

Luckily I'm happy with the end-result, it was worth being eaten alive by thousands of mosquitos! Anyway, thanks for the comment and the favorite, very much appreciated, especially coming from you, I love all of your work.
Cheers.
