Description Work in Progress.

Step 50. Prince of the Jungle. Woodburned on kiln dried Pine. 24" X 48".

I've done more work on the foreground bushes as well as the background on the right side of the lion leading up to the rocks. I've also stippled some of the foreground rocks and filled in a little of the grass. I am 290+ hours into the artwork now. More soon!

Thank you very much! I am always delighted to hear positive feedback. But more so coming from one of the best pyrographers I have ever encountered. Your work is so fantastic. I like to peek and drool over it periodically. I'm very glad you like this piece. Cheers!

Thanks Brandon! I've been enjoying your wonderful new stuff as well. That latest from Walking dead rocks! This piece has been kicking my butt. It's fun but the size makes for a LOT of sore wrists and hands. Happily sore I suppose.

Thanks again!Β
Yeah, I bet! Wow. Are you planning on selling it when you're done or keep if for yourself?

Maybe sometime I'll get around to doing a piece that big. Not for a while though. haha

You're welcome. I'll be selling the original at some high end venues in either New York or Los Angeles. Still getting set up for the appraisal process and getting the potential buyers lined up. But I'll be selling posters and prints in my online store.

I think you would do fantastic at it. This is my first time working on something so large. I usually work much smaller. But I have 8 more 2' X 2' sheets of Birch this time. My favorite wood to work with.

Ooh, very nice. Let me know what you end up selling it for (if you want to)

The biggest I've done was a 24" x 15.5" piece. It wasn't the best wood though (not sure what it was). Made that one only 5 months after starting to woodburn and it was a pain. HahaΒ brandojones.deviantart.com/art… It's kind of neat to see what different textures and tones different types of wood give. My Clint Eastwood was burned on Baltic Birch. I like that, although it takes a little longer to burn I think.

Birch is the best. I love it more so than any other wood I burn on. If this Lion had been done on Birch instead of kiln dried pine, it would have saved me MANY hours with the exacto knife evening out grain flares. If it were Birch it would also be a LOT more detailed. But my next 8 pieces are all on good sized birch. So the amount of detail I can get in will be a LOT stronger. I will let you know what I am selling this for privately some time on Facebook. I have a price set. It's just a matter of lining up the venues, appraisals, dealers, and buyers/collectors. I will keep you updated as I have a plan to skyrocket pyrographic photo-realism into the mainstream art world at good remuneration rates. I plan to bring several of the worlds top artists with me once I get my foot in the door and you are on my list Brandon. So I will definitely let you know what is happening. I plan to promote several other pyrographers in addition to my own stuff. There are a lot of good artists just struggling to get by while crappy pseudo art forms sell for millions. Planning on shutting that down too. Watch and see mate!

You're already planning your next 8 pieces? Nice. What are you going to do?
Awesome! Well you got me excited for that. I hope it goes well! Thanks for including me. And yeah, a lot of people still don't even know what the art of pyrography/woodburning even is. And other people think that I did it with an automated laser engraver...which that wouldn't even come close and not the same! Haha
Totally agree on those crappy art pieces that sell for millions. That's just sad in a way.

Will do!

I have 8 pieces of 2' X 2' birch panels that I hand selected. They still have to be sanded and prepped. But I have the next 8 board ready. As for subjects I have a few different ones in mind, but haven't decided on the next one. One being orca's seen underwater hunting for a dolphin. Another is two Barred Forest Baboons with teeth bared threatening each other. Also thinking about doing a few portraits. I have other animal projects in mind too, but it's all relative. Time will tell.

Happy to include you. I think too many photo-realists in all mediums get undervalued. But if everything goes well we can change this perception. I'm sick of art getting seen as valuable that any 4 year old can make in a half hour. But that sort of thing is controlled by the art galleries, agents, and dealers. Real artists need to band together and break that stranglehold. I've been speaking with various artists in all mediums. Several of them are on board with this. I hope to really start seeing good artwork grow in value to benefit MANY artists, and to drive the bad art back into low valued obscurity.

Ah, very nice! Those sound like they're turn out great with you working on them. I'm actually not sure what I have planned next... Hmmm

Totally agree with you once again. But it's hard changing people's minds once they're set on something. If that's their preferred kind of 'art' then it's hard to make them budge. I really hope you'll be able to do/change something though. That would be beyond awesome!

ErikBrush In reply to brandojones [2013-11-24 22:37:14 +0000 UTC]

For me it's not so much about changing minds. People like what they like. But art is not sold purely based on aesthetic value. Instead it's often sold based on perceived value. This means that if several of us begin to re-educate collectors and buyers, it forces the gallery agents an scam artists to change their tune as abstract falls in value. That's the goal!
