Description Pyrography/woodburned art. This Saber Toothed Cat which was known as Smilodon is the largest member of the Sabertooth cat family. They went extinct approximately 12,000 years ago.
This woodburning is done on Norwegian Birchwood and is the product of 122 hours of burn time. It is 12"X24" approximately. The artwork has 78,000 individual hairs burned into the wood and gives it a unique texture when seen in the sheen of certain sunlight angles. I often have viewers when I am working on my furry animal projects who want to "pet" the fur. It does tend to convey a soft quality. An optical illusion created by the woodburning tool.

I use a Walnut Hollow Versitool for this and all of my woodburnings. I also am notorious for only using a universal tip. I hate changing points in the middle of work and while I have taught students how to burn using all types of points, the only one I ever use is a universal since it makes no sense switching when mastering one point that can do it all is more than sufficient to get the job done.

My art style in my woodburnings or colour pencil work is called "Photo-Realistic Art". I am a perfectionist and very detail oriented.

Those were killed off only about a hundred years ago. Food animals for sailors on ships passing through. They were easy prey and soon eradicated.

Thanks! I am doing a micro-burn in a little while. An owl for a necklace centerpiece. I need to get a new memory card for my camera, but I will have a friend take a picture before I send it away to Boston. It is going to the singer Elca Maranzana. A good friend of mine with the most incredible voice talent.
