Well it is not really surprising that she would say something like that. I mean if you follow Sega's storyline, Sonic really shows he doesn't want anything to do with the love that Amy has for him. So after awhile this would get to her and she would naturally start to think the love she had as hopeless and give up on it.

Well it is very logically for someone to eventually give up like this if you consider all the rejection that Amy had to suffer from Sonic. It is not really that surprising. What was surprising, however, was the fact that Sonic was completely taken aback by her reaction. You set it up nicely like that I think. Sonic just assumed Amy would still be giddy and all happy for shared affection; he never assumed that she would draw back away from his final offering of love after his years of rejecting her no matter how scared he was.

right! that was the whole reason I made this thing! nobody else seems to get that she would do that, but in my mind her reaction here seems completely natural.
