This is my entry/contribution for oil spill calendar fund contest. Wish me luck on making the cut!
I have a friend who works for a company who cleans up spills in Southern Mississippi so you can imagine how busy he is right now. When I spoke to him about doing an illustration for this fund he suggested a Green Turtle, because sadly he says these little guys are all over their beaches. Living on the Atlantic side of the Florida coast has kept me from viewing the disaster first hand so far, but it's only a matter of time.
Green turtles are one of the few species that almost predominantly herbivorous feeding on sea grass in lagoons. They travel long distances across the tropical equator line of the world's oceans and are endangered due to illegal poaching, pollution, and habitat loss. They bury their eggs on beaches in spring and summer and can live up to 80 years!
I know a turtle is not the most loved creature native to these waters but they are a vital and gentle part of the ecosystem. Losing an entire seasonal clutch is going to cripple them as a species. Thank you for your consideration.
Background is watercolors and salt. Turtle is watercolor, colored pencil, ink, and acrylic paint.

Thanks Lady, it means a lot you took the time to write a great critique! As an after thought I thought perhaps more acrylic white might have been good, I just get overly conscious of it when it's the only "unblended color"

I always have issues with working with turtle shells when I doodle them, its like sometimes you can get them to flow greatly and sometimes ya cant. Its like making a soccer ball.

Exactly! Sometimes everything clicks into place for yu and other times weeeell... those are the pictures you really appreciate when they are done! lol

Yeah... me too. He's really going downhill right now,he seems very weak and threw up a bit ago when I tried to coax him with pureed turkey. :< I can't wait till the morning so I know SOMETHING. at the vets.

I assume you saw my update yesterday? He had yet another vet visit this morning and she sent him home to stay on his anti ulcer and tummy acids medicines but he's eating and peeing, two things he didn't do for days! He also seems to feel well enough to chase his sister around the house again lol ^_^ The last hurdle will be if he can pass the obstruction out, he has waste in his system moving through the vet said, so we're good as long as he can pass it! ^_^ *crosses fingers* My stupid husband was sent to work with the envelope because he had stamps there... when I was cleaning some stuff out of his car last night for his work road trip today I found it was still there ARGH! The florida heat urked the envelope adhesive enough that i had to put tape on it to be safe, so i added a little something extra as an apology for running late. >< lol (ps the art was fine I did check that as well since it was left outside, bad Fred!!!)

It's no worries about shipping it right away. I took a few days afk for reflection. I hope your kitty has passed it by now, or at least hasn't made any bad turns since last week.
