Description This barbarian warrior appeared one day out of the Hehm-Forest and aided the eternian forces in a current battle against Skeletor's minions. The Hehm-man often wore pieces of the eternian soldier uniforms. The soldiers gave him the nick-name He-man and is refered to as such to the very day.

Because prince Adam is ageing during the tranformation and muscles up, the effect rips his clothes apart. I like the idea because it supports his barbaric identity and the logical consequences of his transformation.

Hope you'll like it!

EDIT: Due to lineup adjustments I changed painting-style and format of the character.

That is the coolest depiction of He-Man i've ever seen. Β The pose is good... but I think it's the torn clothes that ironically pull the whole thing together, he looks like a hard-working hero with a childlike love of life

Yes, I do enjoy the "hulking" effect on Adams clothes. The sword is a nice blend of the old and newer version. Are He-mans eyes glowing?

Thanks again!

Yepp, the eyes are glowing, but not all the time. The more power he uses, the more the eyes glow. Its more of a power flux indicator.
I should have made this more clear in the illustration.

I like this kind of origin story. It would be a lot more interesting, then just being a king.

It would be better if the hero was a man from the people not the royal bloodline.

Thank you very much, especially for sharing your thoughts!

I considered the option to revision Adam as a regular person in the beginning. I found no reason why a 'normal' person would have the NEED to hide this awesome power and therefore wouldn't conceal it. But a royal offspring is watched by the public and everything he does has more or less political influence. It made more sense to me that a royal representative would have the need for this secret identity.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

nad2005 In reply to feuerkorn [2012-10-10 00:36:03 +0000 UTC]

Also, as a royalty, I think you'd have less of a chance to do this because the people would generally become more aware that the prince is missing too often from fights. While a simple guy, no one would care much about.

Also, his dad is supposed to be this awesome commander that defeated Skeletor, is it too unlikely to think that his son might share that potential and be He-man? I think it would be very lightly to be true.
So Prince Adam is more likely to be discovered/unmasked by simple deduction and experiment than an ordinary man.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

feuerkorn In reply to nad2005 [2012-10-10 10:44:32 +0000 UTC]

It's absolutly possible to go that way and it would definetly work!

As I started to revision this franchise I did two things. First I choose what I loved about the toys I played with as a kid and take that as a basic construct. Then I thought what more realistic reasons I could give the characters to act like they do. The motivation of the characters should always be grounded in the story your telling. And when in the end every character connection made sense and fits in the overall story I call it a day.

Point is, my version is only one possibility, how you could tell this story. And in my version it simply made more sense to make Adam a prince. Because then for example R.Co made sense as a kind of personal guardian A.I. and the impact of a prince collaborating with the enemy sorceress who went rogue creates dramatic tension etc.

But I loved the glimps you gave in your version of the story and I would love to read more about it. It already started creating pictures in my mind.

Thanks again for your thoughts!

Well he would still have reasons to be in disguise even as a simple man, for example, his friends and family might get hurt. He still wants to be just a man and not a soldier, he looks at himself as just a free man fighting for what he believes in and not just another soldier that has to bow to kings and do things because someone ordered him to.

You know what I like about this?

He DOESN'T look all that much like Adam (unlike the show, where He-Man was clearly just Adam wearing different clothes). Much cooler warrior, and I like the torn clothing.

Agreed! The audience should be able to identifiy with Adam aswell since he is the unaltered hero. Never liked Adam playing a coward in purple pants as extrem as in the original series.

Thank you very much!

Enigma-Kal [2011-12-27 04:12:20 +0000 UTC]

I kind of like the way that He-Man's outfit is clearly Adam's outfit ripped by the transformation, but what happens when Adam shows back up in rags that barely fit him? And when he runs out of identical copies of that outfit?

Also: the lack of Korodite battle harness is disheartening.

I do like the design though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

feuerkorn In reply to Enigma-Kal [2011-12-27 17:41:18 +0000 UTC]

Simple. If he transforms back to Adam, his cloth are ruined and he has to figure out a way to deal with it. I was never a fan of the 'easy way out', because situations like that can create many entertaining kinds of emotional situations for the reader/watcher. One time thrilling (Oh no now he could get caught) the other time just funny (why are you wearing this purple pants?) etc.

And as I said in the description, the cloth is the standard soldier uniform from Randors troops, which even the prince has to wear these days. He-man gets armor and all kinds of technical gimmick from man-at-arms, so he's not always wearing the ripped-soldier-uniform-look. That only happens if the transformation has to happen as a urgent reaction to an attack etc.

In the original lore the Korodite harness added strenth to He-mans power. But why? His strength should come from exclusive from grayskulls power. Its kind of a trinity. Adams yound unbiased mind shaped by his both mentors combinded with grayskulls powers mades a hero out of a boy. (no more additional powersource like the harness)
And I don't see the benefit of it as literal armor. it protects nothing and i just didn't wanted it 'just for the looks. Instead I took the logo and changed it to be the royal symbol of randors Defenders. It now has a storytelling purpose and a reason to be carried around.

After all its just my interpretation and I am very happy that you like the design. My goal was to add more depth and some reason to the story we all love. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts about this. As you see I'll really love to see my ideas challenged by people who clearly love the franchise as I do

Cool! I hoped that it would create such impression. As I discussed with 'Octoberson' on the first comment page, the eyes are a indicator for his power flux. The more power he channels the more his eyes glow.

In this time period, Randors army is pushed back into the bullwark city of Eternos by Skeletors forces and are about to be beaten. Every citizen has to be ready to fight even the royal family. Adam has to take his military duties as everyone else.

Thank you very much for the compliment and sharing your thoughts!

Blackwoodforest In reply to feuerkorn [2011-10-27 11:17:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh well my comment was not because of the "prince", i would like to point out that the prince was and is a coward all time, so changing him into a battle ready soldier is kinda hard! But why does his eyes look like he is a zombie?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

feuerkorn In reply to Blackwoodforest [2011-10-27 11:34:22 +0000 UTC]

Ah ok, I misunderstood then.
As for my version of adam I never liked the idea of Adam beeing a coward. From a storyteller perspective he is still the hero the (male) audience is identifing themselfs with. He is just a normal guy who is getting the chance to become the most powerful person in the universe.

He man has 'regular eyes' and the energies he channels through his sword made his eyes glow the more energy he uses. I wanted them to show his power rising within battle. In retroperspective it maybe wasn't a wise idea to show him here with strong glowing eyes. You're not the first to point at that. Something I learned to do better next time

Thanks again
