Description Part 1 - The Adeptus Arbites

In the far future of Warhammer 40k, the Adeptus Arbites, also known as the arbitrators, are the police force of the Imperium. They keep the peace with iron determination, and strong ass-kicking.

More details about them here : [link]

-----------------------------------

- And Now, The Boring Making Of -

The arbites were the first units I made for the Witch Hunters mod, and my first "realtime" 3D model. Their creation was quite chaotic.

At first, I was not supposed to do 3D models, as I joined the mod team in early 2005 for creating levels and maps. Anyway, this restriction was purely personal because, knowing me well, I was sure that if I started to do models, I would go on and try to do *all* the mod content. Well, that's what happened in the end...

In those ancient time, a guy named Scyd (apparently he has an account here [link] ) was one of the very first able to insert new 3D models in the Dawn of War engine. I worked on the textures of his sisters of battle models, but as he was busy with their animation, I started to work on another model he started : the Arbites. Those arbites were supposed to be based on Relic's Space Marines Scouts for speed (and because I was inexperienced in realtime 3D), that's why I kept the scouts' proportions (and why the Arbites are more bulky than all the others models I made later). We agreed quickly that I could change the models a little more, to make them closer to the minis. Necromunda fans will surely notice that those Arbites are based on the minis released in 2003. The color scheme is also the "official" citadel scheme, as it was matching our sisters default color scheme.

Scyd gave me great advices and thanks to him, I was able to understand how to put new models into the game. Unfortunately, he left the team in march 2005 for reasons I never really knowned. Thanks to the many notes he left, I was able to finish the arbites and include them in game. Before I realized it, I became suddenly the graphical key guy of the team, and then, I was due to complete the mod...

The Arbites were mostly made in march-april 2005, and revamped in june. With this revamp, I changed their in-game textures from 512 to 1024 (they were made in 4096 so it was nos a problem) ; I also added many random parts. I made their armor outrageously damaged as a cheap way to add details to a quite bland design (which I like, btw). They use 2 maps - one for the guys, one for weapons and random parts.

This screen was taken from the mission editor, on a custom level that I never complete. There are in fact 2 arbites squads - the close combat and the support one. The support have their default weapon on this screen - the shotgun.

The sentinel powerlifter on the background, which is the "builder" unit in the mod, was based on my idea, but was greatly made by Adrien Debos. His work is now more official, as he is currently working at Relic Entertainement and was a character artist for Dawn of War 2. You can see his portfolio here [link] .

I really loved this mod, too bad it's still incomplete I mean, it had so much potentials, it would have turned into a masterpiece between all mods...

... I almost forgot the "We are the law" catchphrase they were saying !! Thanks to remind me ^_^

I really like the voices of the arbites. That was the first made for the mod, and IMO they were pretty cool.
