Description This started as a doodle in my sketch book and very little planning went into it (which is why there is no background).

The pic was inspired by a quote somewhere in the assassins codex saying that to the Eldar psychers the Culexus assassins are the most evil creatures in the universe.

I wanted to depict it on its hands and knees like an animal (as Culexus assassins are soulless).

Such a creepy face, i can imagine him going "tee hee" whilst playing with a dead eldar. Awesome drawing of my favorite assassins in WH40k.

You know what's most haunting about this?

That mask is hauntingly cute and happily terrifying, both at the same time.

Whoa how cool would it be for one of Giger's aliens to be assimilated into the Borg.

I found a way to see it... I just had to view the previous image, and click on forward, and tada, it appeared. You gotta be sneaky with dA these days... Awesome work!

Anyway thanks for the fav, glad u like it.

I don't think it's a resolution problem, it just happens with dA sometimes, I don't know why. It'll be ok soon!

For some reason, this image never appears on my screen! I would have faved it yesterday, but I couldn't see it; and today I still can't, but will fav based on the thumbnail, so maybe one day I can SEE it in my gallery of favs... Damn dA!

He's happy because he just disemboweled an Eldar farseer and now he gets to make angel patterns in the blood.

I keep coming back to this piece. I must have clicked on it half a dozen times since you posted it, just because it's such a compelling piece.

In many ways, it's far from perfect. There are some minor issues with the perspective (similar to the ones in the dreadnought piece) and the anatomy, and a few bits I feel could have benefited from a second look, and yet...

It reminds me of early H.R. Giger sketches: technically, they were terribly flawed but they oozed menace and horror.

There is some amazing 40k-related art on dA, from professionals as well as amateurs, but I think this is possibly my favourite ever piece.

Thanks man... i was hesitant about posting this for the reasons that you brought up, its not the most polished or well thought out image, but im rather fond of it nonetheless.

The forehead keeps drawing my attention like something is missing. Perhaps a bit more texture or wrinkles from being pulled tight, veins or necrotic decay? The hands have sufficent texture by comparison. I understand its a stretched skin over skull look but such a large section of plain flesh feels like it needs something. Skulls arent all that smooth so perhaps showing some cracks in the skull through the flesh?

Otherwise I love it. Awesome work.

TheWarmaster In reply to Atropos907 [2012-06-10 14:08:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, there is a human face under there (the Culexus' Animus Speculum is a helmet shaped like an elongated skull), but the forehead could use some more definition, even if it's just making the brow more pronounced in comparison.

Yes.
Something IS missing from that forehead.
It's called a human soul.

Pretty unique rendition. Usually you see them with a metallic skull "helmet" so to speak. I like how it's like his own face, attached to the weapon. It's very cool.
