Angry Rarity, shocked Rarity, unhappy Rarity, happy Rarity! Something for everyone, so long as you weren't after consistent horns or decent highlights!Good news: My dying tablet has been replace with one that works!
Bad news: I need some time to get used to it. Part of why this has so many problems (though some of that's due to the old one).
Anyway, this is to explain the "Prince Blueblood is seen in the Becoming Popular song and things seem okay between him and Rarity!" thing. I wouldn't have bothered but the only other fan explanation I've seen implemented the "abuse is okay when it's female on male" trope, which I actually rather hate.
This comic isn't meant to imply that Prince Blueblood is a great guy. I'm sure he's still a dreadful bore and that mostly they're just trying to be on good terms to maintain image. However; romanticising someone you don't know and expecting them to fulfil your fantasies when you meet them (as Rarity did with Blueblood) is immature at best, so neither of them were in the right at the Gala and I thought this explanation would highlight that.
Yes, I gave him an okapi girlfriend, mostly because I wanted to draw a MLP style okapi. She's speaking in French because okapi are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and she was going to be wearing something (at least a flower) but I forgot. Still, Rarity's nude in the blimp scene anyway so I guess it's fine...
My French is very, very, poor but it should basically be:
Her: "Hi darling, hello pony!"
Blueblood: "One moment, darling."
Her: "No problem!"
There's a pun to be made as "cher" (masculine for "sweetheart") can also mean "expensive", but my French isn't good enough for that. At the very least she could call him her "cher cher" (expensive sweetheart) I guess?

They both made mistakes, and although Blueblood is still self-centred here, he's not as selfish as before.
With regards to the French, I understand it is usually "mon cher", or "ma chΓ©rie", although you may know that already by now

Honestly, I figure that the reason he's such a bastard is because he can't use magic. Think about it, did you every see him use any? He picked up that rose with his mouth, refuses to open the door, and eats with his hoof (the other incidents can be chalked up to even Rarity didn't think of using magic). Despite being born a unicorn, Blueblood has been incapable of using even the simplest of spells. Therefore half of his attitude stems from his frustration and embarrassment at his weakness. The other half would be just him being the spoiled jerk we know he is. Despite not having magic, he was lucky enough to be born royal, having everything done for him and not having to lift a hoof, so magic isn't a necessity for him. Perhaps if he was born with magic maybe he would be a more respectable pony.

That is actually a pretty awesome theory! I drew him again recently and noticed his lack of magic use as I tried to find its canon colour, but I didn't make that link with it. His aunt has her own royal magic academy, too, so that would be a pretty embarrassing scenario...! Aww, upset little Blueblood. Sounds like the type of thing that could make a pony grow up more insecure, more frustrated, and less empathetic.
Theories like "maybe he's just really used to servants and/or other ponies wanting to do everything for him and didn't realise Rarity wasn't one of those" I've heard before, and they make sense too. Really, that Rarity expected similar from him kind should emphasise how they both had unfair expectations (even if they might be normal for him).

I'm a big fan of his, he and Big Macintosh are the reason I started to watch MLP. I just dislike that he has a lot of haters. :/

I like to think that them seeming okay with each other during the Becoming Popular montage shows that they did both apologise.

Ah, did wonder why people were saying it was so awful. Actually kind of what I was after other than the last bit though (I wanted the okapi to seem a little conceited, thus referring to others as nouns, so Rarity becomes just "pony").
Ah well. Next time I use different languages I'll try to get an actual person to translate for me! Always worried they'll deliberately do it wrong as a joke though.
