Description ¿Reconocería su reflejo un Tusoteuthis?

Would a Tusoteuthis recognize its own reflection? Would ammonites, for that matter? D:
You may remember Tusoteuthis as the giant squid from the late Cretaceous often depicted fighting mosasaurs, except now it is believed it was not a squid at all, but an octopod! Its appearance may have resembled a gigantic cuttelfish, and if it was anything like its modern octopus relatives, it may very well have been a pretty intelligent sea monster!

Aw yeah cuttlefish...

Side note the way you drew them reminds me of how sushi places would serve tiny red octopus in sweet sauce with sesame seeds.

But now the tables could turn fast.

¡Muchas gracias!

At our local aquarium, guests were worried the giant octopus was bored out of its mind. It sat listless. The staff brought it up with management, but it was too late. The creature passed away.  I am glad the new octopus has toys to play with and blinking lights to look at.

This image made me smile.

Indeed, there are animals alive today who exhibit some human-like behaviors like playing and tool use. We can only speculate as to how many such beings existed in the past.

Splendid work!
I think the "cuttlefish" reconstruction for Tusoteuthis is quite interesting and it does makes more sense for its environment.
Though I do miss the old giant squid reconstruction. Also your color choice for Tusoteuthis is really nice.

Thanks! Shamelessly stolen from a modern day octopus, except for the purple stripes!

No problems!

Also could it colouration possible change to blend in its environment like modern day cuttlefish?

HodariNundu In reply to TheDinoDrawer66 [2019-11-20 23:48:59 +0000 UTC]

Well, as I understand it most shallow water cuttlefish and octopi can do it so I don´t see why not!

Very interesting.

I would really like to see a deviation that displays that potential ability( I might try to make a deviation on the concept in the future).

It's really neat to think that a giant cuttlefish lived at the same time as the dinosaurs since ammonites and belemnites are the Cephalopods that predominately existed during the Cretaceous.

One things for sure. It was a hell of a lot smarter than the marine reptiles it shared it’s ecosystem with.
