Jayfeather couldn't sleep, not with this guilt lapping at his fur. He closed his eyes and snuggled closer to the sleeping Willowshine, trying to let her warm embrace send it away, but it only worsened. He stared up with his blind eyes towards the sky and imagined the thousands of blinking stars; Silverpelt was staring down at him in judgement. His pelt grew hot as he thought of the cats watching him. With a start, he leapt up and called "I'm sorry StarClan! I promise I didn't mean to!" His shout faded away to silence, leaving the forest quiet again. Jayfeather sighed and looked down in the direction of his beautiful Willowshine. He never wanted to fall in love. It was everything he despised in a Medicine-Cat. But here he was. He had broken the Code.
His heart twisting, he bent down and gave her a final lick, then softly said "I'm sorry, my love. We'll never be together." Then he walked away sadly, leaving the only thing he ever truly cared for, sleeping soundly.
