Description Pulsar Powers created by and belonging to
This anime style for me was difficult, and along the way I had an epiphany: I probably shouldn't just be drawing deviant's characters for free unless there has been some prior reciprocation other than an occasional fav.
If you have to ask if it's you, then it's probably not.
Anyway this was some good anime training practice and another good piece to throw a monkey wrench in what people think is my "style".

I'm not too familiar with all the conventions of anime but this looks like a solid render to me! Period. Nice job, Gary!

Thanks, B. That's just a guassian blur on a highlight layer above the shadow layers. Try it.

Your lines and colors look great, but I don't think these proportions work for this style.
Looks like you're using traditional heroine proportions (8 heads),
anime style doesn't really conform to the same rules.
Try around 6 heads [link] I think that works better for the characters weight.

I think you're right. I also think maybe I aged her by drawing her with those proportions. I hadn't even thought about it. Glad to have a second set of eyes. Thanks, Rod.

Pushing the boundaries of your style only matters if you enjoy it and if it leads to growth...and your comments make me wonder if that's the case here. Still, this looks interesting. I would struggle to draw a woman so slender, even though I know I need to vary my body types more. I think one thing that anime/manga style does is simplify a lot of the line work in favor of detailed coloring. For instance, you could have made her cheekbone/chin into one smooth curve and I think that would look more akin to the anime look, but then again there are as many different ways to draw 'anime style' as there are artists, I'd imagine.

What did I say that makes you think I don't enjoy it? I love learning new things. In my case, I was thinking of doing my G2 story in a manga style. This is useful. As far as the technical side goes with the face, I'm not sure I follow you. I used an anime face for reference [link] and I though I did pretty good, so I'm real interested to know how I missed.

I guess that comes down to interpretation of words on the net. I read your description as somewhat abrasive, like you were trying to put certain people in their place (who, I have no idea). Plus you said it was hard for you, so I got the impression that it was something you'd rather not have done.

I wish I could do some kind of draw-over to show what I'm thinking, but I'm not in a position to do so now. As I said, there are many ways to do 'anime style' (and in fact I'm sure some purists might get upset at implying that there is a specific 'anime style' at all) so I'm not saying what you did was wrong or flawed, just different from what I would have expected.

Breaking habits that make drawing figures easier is quite difficult. There were 3 things in my comments, but really it's all about me. One was that I get irritated when people think I can only draw 1 thing 1 way despite ample evidence to the contrary. Another was what I said first about my habits, and the third was simply to be more selective about who I gift with art from now on. I like the aspect of community on dA and interaction and reciprocation are part of it. So I'll direct my energies to where that's happening. I got about 10 people on dA who meet that criteria.
On another note, I was definitely looking at a particular artist for anime inspiration. I also think you're right that I could've done a little better with that jawline.

But my her actual name is Pulsar PUREHEART, not "Powers". My art jam is actually about Pulsar DISPLAYING her POWERS.

But I'll add it to the art jam anyway. Your style is cool.
