Description

This is Gwenael Chastain (real Bretonic name ), the character of my friend xxxGravemindxxx .

I like him despite the fact that he is a necromancer and my characters usually kill that scum with top priority ! Gwen is cute little Breton, who acts as an apple orchardist, but is actually the type of guy who walks around graveyards at night with a shovel . Of course he is a follower of Mannimarco . He is a master in necromancy, conjuration and destruction magic. He likes to trip into bear traps, can't cook (despite being a Breton ) and sucks with alchemy so bad that my master alchemist is afraid Gwen will eventually blow up the place.

Besides morality, I would not want to be a necromancer as I would like to perform autopsies on corpses all day . I don't mind seeing that all, but my poor nose ! Ever played Elder Scrolls Online and wondered, how it must smell being surrounded by vomiting zombies and fields full of corpses? Not to mention Mannimarco's tower with the flesh pieces laying around the stairs ! Ok, I guess he doesn't care anymore, since he is undead himself, but I would not want to smell that day in and out !

So, dear necromancers: howcome you enjoy your profession??? Don't tell me it pays well !

Also, I begin to wonder why all of my friends are necromancers while my characters are all good folks placed in the Mages Guild ! Why did so many people want that stupid class to be playable in ESO????

Anyways, this artwork was started in 2016 before there were Wormcult styles and outfits. So, I took whatever the cultist look was back then. I did not start this to promote the necromancer class, but originally this should have been finished back then for my friend’s birthday. But I obviously took longer to finish it, which is mostly because I hate doing armour ! Besides, it was hard to finish it without her seeing it .

So, 3 years later and she actually has birthday today again. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY you corpse-digging scumbag ! For today and today alone my master and I will ignore the smell of death that comes across from you . But don’t forget, that the Mages Guild under Order of the Great Mage Vanus Galerion does not approve of the art of necromancy! And both my beloved Master Skirgard and I take great delight on minimizing this folly!

Thank you so much my friend, this means a lot for me.   I was so happy to see this nice piece of art with my lovely breton on it and you did a great job on him and his spells here.

I've waited years for the necro class and I always believed they would give us one in ESO. So I'm excited now because I finally get what suits best for me. The only thing I don't like, is the fact that I can't change Gwen from his Sorc class to a Necro. (I'm not sure if I'll do it anyway, bec he's not to bad as a sorc).

I'll make his mentor Tanguy instead, but that's not the same for me. I'm playing Gwen for over ten years now since the first days of Oblivion, so he's a part of me and my thinking (and ESO is the only game where I couldn't play him like he should be  ).

I also hope they willl give us a nice weapon set, because I want a necro staff with green fire on it

Why necromancers? Because their magic and their role are the most interesting parts in the lore. Not just in ESO but through the ages of Tamriel history. Of course they work together with one or two daedric lords and I like daedra stuff. I also like the idea of summoning/ manipulating spirits and souls and studying forbidden knowledge. Usually you won't truly resurrect a person here. They use minor daedric spirits for reanimating corpses not the souls of their former inhabitants. I also don't mind dead things or corpses at all. And I think there are spells for it. No one would run around stinking like hell.

To be honest, Gwen wouldn't be the only one who would go beyond theory (sry ). At least, we would both have a nice place to stay in Coldharbour.

Gwen is loyal to his master but he never was and never will be a traitor and he isn't a bad person at all. He left the mages guild by his own choice because he realized they can't give him what he sought after, especially after he found out he was a descendant of a line of powerful necromancers. He didn't betray them. He had to go because it was the best for both sides. And he never had a problem with Vanus or guild rules.

He joined the Cult afterwards to learn more because his father has been a high rank there (who sold his own soul in exchange for power to Molag Bal) and that's why he came in contact with all the other stuff.

Glad you like it!

It is stupid that you can change race but class. Either change everything or nothing.

I have the same. Erin is and will always be a frost-based battle mage. I am quite pissed that she is using fire and poison at the moment. That is quite off from my headcanon and yet the closest I could get to what she is.

The new necro-effects are turquoise which is why I used that here for the artwork.

I don't find the art itself disgusting or disturbing. What I really find bothersome is the fact that the material they use had no choice. The owner of the corpse might not agree with what you use them for. Somehow I am quite disturbed about what will happen to me after death. If I would live in Tamriel it would be even worse. I would be highly worried some necromancer ass might use my body to fight my own people/guildmates/friends or do somethign stupid in general with it. I want to be cremated, both in Tamriel and in real when I die .

Also I don't want anyone to touch any of my people after they die. If I just imagine meeting my ancestors coming across me as a zombie... no! Simply no ! If one of my loved ones would die, I would not want to resurrect them just to keep them near or so.

I take one acceptable exception out of it that I don't even know if it really counts as real necromancy or is just conjuration: summoning the ghost of someone. Not to bind the person, just to call and leaving the person the chance to refuse, e.g. when you need information or council from them. That does not disturb the body and does not force the person to anything.

Other than that I would not even deal with an animal corpse in a disrespectful matter.

I don't mind breaking the rules by using forbidden methods, .... for example as a lover of water and ice magic I think it is very well possible to manipulate the blood of another person . However, I would not disturb the dead who have no option to fight back. It that way necromancy is a dirty art of enjoying power over someone who can't oppose you. You see that very well with Mannimarco that he enjoys this power. Ergo, he does not have this power over the living and therefore needs to compensate .

I will stick to the beliefs of my master and those of Vanus Galerion . You do as you please, but those are two people I will never betray . And I don't care if necromancy is some new fashion on the market. No need for me to be mainstream .

Too bad you can't even choose an element. Would be really nice, if there was a chance to specialize on fire, or ice, or shock magic. But I don't want to complain. I really love the game and the lore

Yeah, I know you wanna go to Sovngarde with your Nord friends and drink beer and mead on Shor's side ^^ Whereas Gwen has a good chance to end like his father

I think it would be stupid for beginners to mess around with the souls of the former owners besides putting them in to soul gems. I guess there was a lorebook somewhere or a note, where it was written that only more skilled necromancers are able to control and manipulate a mortal's soul to do their own will and it's more dangerous of course because you have to bind and force them into your service. Not everyone has the willpower and the general skill for that. And of course you will find a lot of people here who enjoy their power over others.

Concerning me, I respect Vanus and his work and I don't have a problem with guild members at all. Counts also for Gwen. And I don't care about new fashions on the market. I would have chosen it right from the beginning and not because its mainstream.

I don't know where Gwen's old man ended up, but I would believe Gwen will end up being the slave of some Daedric prince after selling his soul to them .

I don't think I would stay in Sovngarde all the time, but hang out the other places as well. Why not explore entire Aetherius .

Well, but we are not talking beginners level with Mannimarco . He hints in Oblivion right before you kill him that he had summoned Vanus after his death to have conversation with him. I doubt Vannus came by his own free will.

Well, we don't respect your work, so get lost .

Impressive work! It's always nice to see Elder Scrolls Online fan art and fan fiction The topic is extremely interesting, too! I've also wondered how in Oblivion the necromancers tolerate that smell and decaying corpses But spending time in a foul smell tends to dull your sense of smell eventually, and probably those guys constantly reek of death, because I doubt they're very obsessive about hygiene and sterilizing their hands after their experiments etc...or maybe they have a spell that takes their sense of smell away?

The necromancer class in eso is most controversial, indeed! In my opinion, necromancers are so interesting (because of the their magic, and more importantly, because of the chance they give for you to build a very controversial/surprising characters...and to think about all the macabre and maybe at the same time a bit hilarious situations you could create of necromancy). But on the other hand, I also don't quite understand the point of the necromancer class, considering the ESO lore and the main story line of the Vestige

Thank you very much! Also for the faves! That is much appreciated!

I think necromancy is definitely an interesting topic, both ingame and in real .

And yeah, that job definitely dulls off in many ways (not just smell, but seeing dead and decayed things). My friend worked in forensics/pathology for a bit and belive me, the smell was noticable for weeks, despite bathing and all the chemicals we have to get rid of it .

But -I believe that is a quest in a delve in the Rift- there is some note in ESO where a necromancer states he is carrying his dead wife around with him and he uses magic against the smells... so that might be an option . Still, besides the smell, I would not feel comfortable with all the bacteria that is connected to that. And they don't have surgical gloves in Tamriel. That's definitely not hygenic .

It is definitely controversal to introduce that class. I mean, there ARE necromancers in the game and this way you do have the chance to be on the "bad" side in some way. Also, not every culture and group specifically bans all types of necromancy. But still, it won't make sence that we will now see masses of necros running around in the game .

I even find the macabre part of it funny, e.g. mass-ressurection of team members (believe me, I would have needed that in a trial yesterday !). But from the view of my characters and myself I would not go beyond theory if I was part of that world .

Yep, as a student I attended to anatomy classes where we studied anatomy by dissecting corpses (embalmed ones, so there wasn't similar smells as in pathology/forensic medicine autopsies ofc), and we indeed go used to seeing death during that time! Even though I never had much appetite after that (lunch break) but ate anyway at the uni's restaurant before going to the lectures in the afternoon I'm interested in forensics but wouldn't like to deal with all the tissues containing bacteria (despite having PPE) And speaking of ESO, I always think about how they just loot bloody corpses and rotten corpses and such and uhh.. the smell in the looted gear but they don't seem to be very concerned about the exposure to the human blood (biological hazard) either! Maybe there are no hepatitis viruses or HIV and such in Tamriel, though...

I, in fact, could understand the necromancer class otherwise but *SPOILERS* what about Meridia's hatred towards the undead and such that is against the life itself? I mean, I could understand that for instance, some ex-worm cultists, who have eg. disappointed mannimarco and been punished by him, or otherwise hold grudges against him, could become "vestiges" and see Mannimarco as their enemies and return to the "good side" - but Meridia's role in the main quest would indeed be a problem (or i wonder if she comments anything during the questline, if the Vestige is necromancer class)

is there an option to mass-resurrect your team members for the necromancer class in ESO?   if there is, that sounds very cool! And useful like you said By the way, speaking of mass resurrection, one of my OCs does that in my fan fiction story that I wrote before the necro class was released haha If there really is such thing now, I again predicted what they're going to add to the classes before there even were news about a new class coming

Zoology was my minor subject at university, so I just cut up animals. And there the smell was already unpleasant! Starting with formaldehyde over the bare smell of the dead animal itself. Funny thing though, most students got over the smells and looks quickly and ate in the same room. After dissecting a calamari I even took the rest home and cooked it .

In Tamriel you have alchemy and resturation magic to compensate for hepatitis and such things perhaps?

I know what you mean. But perhaps Meridia did not know everything, inclunding the "methods" of the hero. Or she was to weak/had no other option. She is not perfect after all. During the Sumemrset quest her powers are greatly reduced. But yeah, I would not think, her first option would be asking a necromancer for support. Any explanation taken into account sounds dull.

Yes, you can res 3 people at once with the ultimate of the "healing"-skill line. But now imagine all the necros runnign around in Cyrodiil during a great pvp battle = the game is not just going to crash, but the entire console/pc will explode while trying to deal with the graphics .

My friend was doing that as well, though she has not written down much, she has a concept of her character in her head, including all the necro-magical details. My characters on the other hand fight hers .

We also started with dissicating animal's organs and i think the smell of the heart of a pig was quite unpleasant on the other hand, I don't eat meat and have always hated dishes with organs, even when i ate meat, so maybe that's why ... And still i think btw that the most unpleasant smell during the obductions was when there was served some liver dish at the uni's restaurant haha (because I can't tolerate that smell of cooked liver lol )

Indeed that explanation about Meridia and the necromancer Vestige makes sense! And, maybe Meridia though that she could "fight fire with fire" and turn the necromancy in her own advantage ?

That sounds like you friend and you could make an intersting story either together or your own stories Do you play with PC or PS or xbox btw?

I think her characters and mine will eventually kill each other . We do some lose rollplay from to time.

XBox, EU server . You?

Oh, I play on Ps4 Eu server, so we're not on the same platform, then! I have a roleplaying/fan art/fan fiction guild but now it's tbh more dead than subjects of the necromancers' magic lol I dont play myself so much these days (because of the constant lack of time...) and many members that used to be active, don't play so much/have their own guilds atm, so the guild has withered, I think!  But that killing each other thing could serve as a very dramatic ending, maybe?

!

Unfortunately I don't know as many roleplayers on the Xbox anymore. The few I know are really weird and make up stories about other peoples cahracteers without asking + they involve people in roleplay who do not want it.  So I went at distance from them.

Yeah, I wonder who will win .

uhh, that sounds...creepy maybe keeping your distance to them is for the best are you going to duel in ESO eventually or do it in writing or something else than pure in game fighting in that duel/cyrodiil?

Very nice piece! I love the pose in this one!

Besides, I follow Vanus Galerion and therefore won't betray his beliefs .
