Thunderlane and Rainbow Dash knew each other from flight training, Dash joining the team, and their rise to fame in the Wonderbolt ranks. In their time on the squad, both Rainbow and Thunderlane dated other members until their sights turned on each other with the encouragement of Soarin. Dash's flirting was shameless, but she never let it get in the way of her work. Thunderlane, on the other hand, would occasionally bump into others or spin out from her making eyes at him in the middle of practice, much to his embarrassment. He could never quite figure her out, which intrigued him all the more. But it was only once Rainbow Dash introduced Thunderlane to her tortoise Tank, and the two became fast friends, did she started taking their relationship 100% serious. Because if Tank liked him, he must be one special guy.

To everyone's surprise, Rainbow Dash wanted a huge wedding once Thunderlane proposed to her. After all, what could be cooler than two well-known Wonderbolts tying the knot? Rarity and the others were more than happy, to say the least, to help plan a big event for their friend in Canterlot. The event had everything from fireworks to an area for pets (because Dash wouldn't have ever been married without Tank as their ring-bearer), and the wedding ended with an infamous "Rainboom".

Rainbow's first pregnancy was a complete surprise, and it seemed only by sheer luck that Dash hadn't become pregnant prior to their engagement or wedding. She was immediately excited to bring life into the world, another pony to carry on the Dash legacy. Even though she was carrying a child, Rainbow did as much of her training as possible, boasting that her foal would come out doing flight patterns. And when she gave birth to a little girl who had the innate talent to be an amazing athlete like her mother but absolutely no interest in it whatsoever, Dash was crushed. But a year or so after, Rainbow Dash became pregnant again. Oops!

Almost the complete opposite of her oldest, Dash and Thunderlane's second daughter came out fighting. Downburst was feisty and stubborn, and grew up with her mother telling her how amazing their family was and how Downburst would grow to be even more famous than her parents. She lived for the challenge, taking every early-morning private training and harsh critiques in stride, while starting to be even more cocky than her mother.
