Thanks. This was some cheap student acrylic on a canvas board. The trick with the colours here isn't so much about the material as it is the mixing technique. All colour blending was done on the canvas rather than using a palate.Β

Can't give you rights on this one, but you can commission me to do up something similar for $200.

Damn...well I don't think I can justify commissioning a tatt and then paying for the actual tatt aswell.
Lol at least...not right now...
I love this pic so I might just take you up on that ay

Dude. Sorry i have been gone so long. Anyway nice work. Definitely love the texture of the canvas in there. I think the subtley of the background greatly enhances the piece. Has a neat designer feel to it too. Stylized ya know.

Thanks. I wasn't sure about leaving the canvas "natural" or gessoing and sanding it smooth. In the end the asthetic appeal of trhe canvas texture won me over (I couldn't be assed with the gesso).

Oh you didn't gesso? I have never done a non gesso. Doesn't it take alot more paint?

Only if you don't undercoat. I used a spay undercoat (again because of laziness) which seals the canvas without losing the texture.
A textured surface limits your technique options because any wet techniques are just going to well in the gaps. Dry styles do tend to use more paint but a blending medium can get around that problem if that is going to be an issue. Since this was such a small canvas, I just used the extra paint. Again: lazy.

There are so many pheonix pics out there, it's kinda tired. That said, I do like the design, the emphasis being on the tail, and it's got expression and movement. Ireally like the sketch version as well.

I know what you mean. There are certain subjects that get done to death, yet these make up the bread and butter of a person who wants to make a living from their art because they are salable. I've already got a buyer for this one and it is only a day old. Tattoo design is the worst. It is all butterflies and love hearts and japanese characters.
