Description "Iรค! Shub-Niggurath! The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young!" ~ H. P. Lovecraft, "The Whisperer in Darkness"

This image tortured mea little, and took quite a long time. I'm not sure if it's right, but I can't bear to be in labour anymore. Lovecraft never described her beyond hinting at her role as a fertility goddess, and describing her as an "evil cloud-like entity". Attempting to illustrate a Mythos being as something more than a mere physical manifestation is difficult at best, but an interesting challenge.

If things go awry (one syllable mispronounced,...)Serves them right for rejecting the One True God of the Christians.

The definitive Shubby. The reference to the ancient figure of Artemis/Diana did it for me.

Is there something wrong with me if I find the monster far less disturbing than the presence of breasts. And that their presence is less disturbing to me than in a normal context because they are attached to a (wonderfully) horrific monster?

I think lovecraft's most brilliant aspect of his writing was that he let the reader conjure up the worst thing that they could think of in place of anything he could try to scare anyone with what he would use to describe his own words with. After all, it's ourselves that truly frighten us.

- I couldn't agree more. There are a couple well-estabilished 'traditional' descriptions to some of these, mostly taken from RPGs, but if you come to think of it, not even Great Cthulhu himself is described physically. Only a couple statues are. So even the whole 'godzilla with an octopus for a head' might be totally wrong.

Which is why I love abstract Cthulhi.
