It's nice to see progress pictures, at least for me, since I hope to learn from it. So you drew both characters seperately like this and then put them together?

Yeah, I drew a couple of little layouts for the picture, then a separate sheet for Ivy and Xiang (which is just too sloppy to put up), then I lightboxed them together, arranging them so they fit. Looking at the final now I think I could've flopped Xiang left to right, and made her hands larger and smaller for perspective's sake, as well as making Ivy's blade bigger in the foreground.
