Here's a lil' somthin'-somethin' to break up the block of transformers art I've got scheduled right now...Yesterday was ~Melancholy-Minds birthday, she's a dear friend and talented up the wazoo to boot, so I granted her a birthday request. To my delight she asked for Beauty and the Beast, which was always one of my fav Disney Films and just an awesome story all-round. I was only too happy to spend a few hours today doodling this up.. - I hope you like it Jen.

Hey, thanks! yeah, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a sucker for over-saturate coloursβ¦. I /can/ use them more "maturely" but when bright colours are so fun and awesome I often give up and just go nuts!

Seriously, Beauty and the Beast is like my favorite Disney Movie ever, ever since I was a kid, and seeing it in your colorful bright style warms my heart!

Words cannot express how completely enamored I am with this piece (I was already slack-jawed when I laid eyes on the thumbnail.)
As per usual, your technique and combination of traditional mediums has created a very unique aesthetic-- one that is simultaneously expressive and refined (I wish I knew how you do it!) That said, I'm especially blown away by how expertly you used these colours. One would expect a palette this saturated and hot to be completely overwhelming, however it's as though a soft, warm glow is emanating from the piece itself. While stunning on its own, the effect also serves to further enhance intimacy of the piece, which you've carried on beautifully into their emotive expressions and the gentle gestures of their joined hands.
The gaze shared between them is an unmistakably loving one... it just looks like nothing on Earth could tear their eyes from one another. While Belle here seems to have more of the timidity that was originally Beast's during their infamous ballroom scene, I find it perfectly charming (I think she's experiencing the very same flushing and heart-fluttering I feel whenever I watch Beauty and the Beast, ha ha!)
All in all... This is just perfect. I'm extremely grateful as well as deeply touched that you made this. It's all too obvious that you love this movie every bit as much as I do-- I can read it in each pencil stroke!

You've picked up on an interesting point with your comment about colours.. since I've bought my 10 colour biro and my 12 box of aquarelle's I've been producing some REALLY over-saturated pieces ... I have worried here and there that I'm walking over into garish territories, but then at the same time not worried about it too much, because hell, bright and colourful pictures make me smile. :3 ... Iv'e just got a 48 box of aquarelle that arrived in the post this morning (woodless ones at that) so it might be interesting to try for some more subtle colour pallets and variations with those.. knowing me however I'll probably still stick to the bright and lurid colours I always use cos they're fun and I enjoy them. :3Β
The weird thing with this was it started out as being just orange and yellow, and I'd pretty much "finished" the piece and felt it was ok.. but the image in my head had purple in, and while I was scared to introduce such a vastly different colour to a really monochromatic pallet, I couldn't leave the piece as it was.. I NEEDED to add it, if only to see what happened... - as soon as I put the tiniest amount on the picture it no longer looked finished at all, and the orange/yellow only parts suddenly looked flat and lacking depth... I guess it's all part of the unconscious-competance idea, but it's really interesting how a piece can change and evolve before your very eyes like that.Β
I do love that movie! Making this almost made me want to find a copy and put it on (unusual for me as I don't tend to re-watch films at all). - I'm really pleased you love this as much as you seem to, darlin'! ^_^Β
