There is no glitter Inside of this, thats all sand. It is a mix of black and white colored sand, so maybe the white is what gives that effect. I will edit the pictures of this project when I can to make it apear less crowded and distracted. Everyone has given me great advice about it. I have a few more ponds that will be uploaded soon that have the rock aspect you mentioned, maybe you could look at them some time. Thanks for the comment and taking the time to respond about everything.

Making water fall effects is difficult

Than I'll stay away from that for the beginning and just try and pour a clear pond...

Hello!Β
I really like the concept and the execution wasn't bad, either! The ponds were very nicely put together and that small "waterfall" effect was done very nicely, indeed! I can see why it took you forever, but I need to tell you, every second of that forever shows that this is a labour of love. The moss looks good and are strategically placed. And the koi fish look life-like and well done. That's definitely something to be proud of.Β
If there's one thing I can comment on to make this project better, it might be the photography and presentation. I like the collage effect, but the busy pattern on the table top doesn't help. We want the focus to be on the project itself. The second thing is you might want to consider experimenting with the layout of the collage. A little bit of a separation between the pictures will help to enhance all of them. And finally, you may want to consider taking pictures of the piece from a few more different angles to better showcase the work. And if it is a miniature, having something like a "size marker" would help a lot, too. That's why people will sometimes shoot photos of their miniatures and have something else beside it, like a coin. It helps the viewer to picture the size of the project.Β
Hope these tips will help. In the meantime, great project!

I have had someone else comment on my layout and photography as well, and i will experiment with my next few uploads and projects actually. I am glad i am getting so many comments and such good advice. This i guess is considered a miniature compared to the real like thing, but this itself is still Β fairly large, like its big enough if it fell on someones foot or something it would hurt soo bad. like its the length of my hand if that accounts to anything.

Maybe i could post my pieces next to rulers for larger items then?

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to keykaye [2016-06-08 02:53:06 +0000 UTC]
That's one idea!Β
It doesn't really have to be rulers, either. Some folks use other things that most people know to have a standard size in order to compare one to the other (because rulers, while useful... aren't the nicest looking things around...) So for something that's the size of a hand, you might consider a mug as a comparison. For something smaller, coins aren't a bad idea. Some paper-crafters use custom-made "comparison cubes" like this one:Β Charizard Pokedoll Β to show off the size of the piece. There are lots of options out there... you can pick one that suits you best.Β

I honestly thought this was a mini fish pond with real fish.Β Amazing work!Β The next tine you make one may I suggest you make the fish appear to have scales?Β It'll add tot he realism.Β A real play on the viewer could be the inclusion of other water plants, like cattails or something.Β Wow, great work on tricking the viewer!Β My only real critique is the waterfall bit.Β I don't knowΒ how resin works, but if you can for a future project make the water look a bit bubbly it'll add more depth.

keykaye In reply to ChaosFay [2016-06-06 19:04:39 +0000 UTC]
Resin is actually supposed to dry and harden without bubbles, so it is hard to add a bubbly effect. If you look at my resin goldfish journal you can see i have done scale effetcs before, but on something shorter then half an inch it is difficult to get in the details, but i will try to see what i can pull off. And I had plans to add more plants, but the project got on my nerves so many times i sort of rage quit on the plants and just focused on making sure i didnt mess up my resin work. I have added plants in my other projects, i will be uploading them soon if you keep an eye out for them.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for them.
I know very little about the materials you work with; thank you for the info!Β Idea I'm not sure would work, but would putting little plastic bubbles under the resin give the bubbly look?Β Or white beads?Β Again, I know little to nothing about resin.Β I'm a quilter, but did make jewelry for 20+ years.Β

Well i think if i ran a tooth pick in the resin while its taky and not fully hard it may add bubbles, but its risky. I will have to do some research into it.

Waaaah, it really seems a pond, the plants look so real and the fishes are so adorable I could throw at them some bread crumbs! I understand if you don't wish to sell it because you worked so hard on it, but if you do make sure to sell it for a high prize, because you'd clearly deserve it! 0.o

I'm not familiar with working with resin but this is really impressive. Is that real moss you've used? I wonder will it dry up after time?
Did you ever sell it??

I still have it, and its preserved moss I got at a craft sore meant for fake glower arrangements so it should stay nice.

Good job on the koi pond! The time and effort you spent on it really shows. The only comment I may have is that I find you picture a bit bussy. Sometimes a collage with no frames works.. in this case I think it would have done your beautiful craft work more justice if you used frames. But stunning, keep up the good work! Β

I wanted to be creative and unique with how i made this one, i have seen many koi ponds that are just flat resin works, and i wanted something more. No one had bought it at the art show i was at, so now it will sit on my desk. Thank you for the compliment.
