I think he was the most loyal Atreides ever, even after being pushed too far for it.

Sure, cuze he was sooo drunk that time with Jessica, and then he just died for Paul in the first book lol
But after reading "God-Emperor of Dune", you just can't hate him. Or yes, if you're like me and loved Leto II

Leto II was cool, but too be honest you can't blame Duncan, being something like a slave for about 4000 years must be tiresome

Mmmh, in fact, he could be more nice with Leto II. But he's still a very good and important character fo the serie.

I sort of understand Duncan, despite Leto II being an Atreides, he went too far away from the honorable ways Duncan respected from Leto and Paul, I mean... after all Leto II became a far worstΒ tyrant than Muad'Dib didn't dared to become -I know it was a necessary thing, the Golden Path, but viewing at the point of Duncan Idaho... at that point he couldn't really understand it all... remember the Ghola was always tricked to regain his memories by attempting to kill Paul... considering living with the memories of 4000 before, I mean-- I try to put myself in his place, and I would feel something like a toy or a relic kept just for the old times by an almost omnipresent deity.
Don't get me wrong, I respect Leto II... I wonder if he foresaw all what was going to happen in the future up to Dune Chapterhouse and forth, and he did it because he knew Duncan was important

Okay, now I see better and I think you're right, except for the second paragraph, cuze Leto II says in his memories (I'm not sure) that he didn't see what will happen 10'000 years after his reign.
