Description
It took guts to name this picture "Alexander the Great"--he's impossible to truly capture. But I feel this is as close as I will ever truly come. Inspired by Mary Renault's incredible Alexander trilogy: Fire from Heaven, The Persian Boy and Funeral Games.This hyper-realistic drawings take me SOOOO long, but I'm always happy when I do them.

I can totally see Mary Renault's interpretation of Alexander in this. Like that combination of yearning, idealism, and ambition all in one person. I think this is the Alexander portrait on DA that's really captured him the most for me. The effort you put into the hyper-realism really pays off.

I love the detailed lines you put on his eyes, just a sense of confidance there but not in the traditional look of confidance. I love it

That is so awesome. I always pictured him more rugged, though...but I've never read those books--maybe I should. But I guess one can not be born rugged--it comes with age and this guy looks pretty young

Well Alexander was said to be very good-looking. I realize he's edging towards pretty here, but they seemed to be part of his enigma: this little blonde haired boy who took over the world!
