Description A bit of daily life for some young naga herders, watching over their flock of picrana with their faithful domesticated badgers.

The Medani naga are a mostly subterranean culture, but not all of the caverns are completely cut off from natural light, leaving them some room for growing things. Plus, the naga are masters of domestication and cultivation, taking small rabbit-like creatures that naturally spent a good chunk of their time in burrows and turning them into the picrana. Their fine coat that can be sheared and turned into all those fine fabrics the naga love (kinda like an Angora rabbit). They're also a staple protein, source of leather, provider of manure, etc. Also to the naga's cultivation credit: low-light vegetation and herder badgers.

Anyways, this was a lot of fun to do. Took awhile, though!

Do you have any plans to expand your world of Medan into a novel? I think it'd be a really awesome success. I believe this because not only can you create characters and new mythical creatures but also personalities, back stories and somehow tie the, all together neatly. I would totally buy a book or even a comic about Medan because just looking at the artworkΒ

I'm glad you like it so much. ^_^ I'd like to eventually do something with it - a novel or graphic novel, collection of short stories, something. It's just taking me awhile to work it all out.Β  Still, it's great to know there are people so interested in it.

Thank you. ^_^ One of my favorite parts of fantasy is world-building - figuring out the different cultures and things like that. I'm glad it can bring you some enjoyment, too.

I love the very peaceful atmosphere here, and the idea behind all of it. Those rabbit-evolved creature look really cool!

A quick question: we can see light inside the buildings; what source of light do they use? Fire? Something magic?

Thank you. ^_^

At this point in time, I'm gonna say the naga have worked to harness the natural bioluminescence found in some of the native wildlife, because living underground makes fire a little problematic (particularly for the deeper caverns) and the naga don't really use magic. ^^

Intertesting! So does that mean that they also have a good vision in the dark in general?

Kitsune64 In reply to Uinn [2013-04-27 20:36:41 +0000 UTC]

Yep! They can't see in pitch black, of course, but they only need low light levels to get around without bumping into things. They've worked for centuries to bring light to their caverns, though, so the night vision is only really necessary in the outskirts of their city.
