I used to visit this area every summer as a child, but I've never seen it in winter. Beautiful...

I visit Garden of the Gods at least once a week @o@ It's everything I've ever wanted. I don't think I went when it was this snowy, I wake up too late so it probably started melting by the time I got there xD

A question about 60/40.. Is the main subject matter meant to take up either one of these positions to be ok compositionally (taking other factors into consideration too)? I never quite understood whether it had to be only on the 40% side, the 60% side, or either. In this one, it's 60% and looks great; in our tutorial example, it was 40%, so I take it that's the answer then - either will do?

Garden Of The Gods is honestly amazing, the light there at daybreak is incredible.
As far as a camera goes, I would honestly say in this day and age, you really can't go wrong. I would steer clear of Olympus as their sensors are smaller and the lens lineup quite limited. Go and hold a bunch, see what feels comfortable in your hands

Make is pretty irrelevant, just find something you are comfortable with, all DSLR's these days have great lens lineups (minus Oly) It is all about the system and lenses, bodies come and go, lenses last a lifetime
