Acrylic on canvas, 36X48 inches.From 1992. I spent the better part of 5 months on this, but it never seemed to go well. In a fit of frustration I gessoed over the whole thing and painted this [link] over it in a little less than two weeks.
In retrospect I kinda wish I'd kept it.

You are as crazy as I once was! I used to cut up my paintings if they dragged on and work with the smaller pieces. As if there was no new canvas to work with ......... too bad, really. I had also saved work that didn't go anywhere at the time, and lo and behold, inspiration struck and it did get finished (years later, lol).

This is a pretty amazing piece. Thank goodness there's no way to take new photos over the top of old ones, or we might not even have this photo of your creation to look at. You were obviously out to say a lot with this one, and it's easy to see how working on something that passionately for so long without being able to get it exactly like you want it could get frustrating. But anyway, let's make a deal...the next time you are tempted to paint over something you've worked on for 5 months, you can just mail it to me, and I'll send you 10 new canvases in return.
