Alistair would know all about awkward family meetings.
Warden Commander Kara Amell meets her newest recruit! Oh Carver, be friendly.
Headcanon blahblahblah: Kara went through a phase where she tried finding out everything she could about her blood family, but gave up on actually contacting them, figuring they'd want nothing to do with her. She saw Carver at Ostagar, and recognized his name, but didn't say anything to him. She always wondered if he'd survived the battle... and then one day he gets thrown into her lap. She isn't really sure how to feel about this. Family? She's made her own by now.
They get along better once she stops overthinking it and Carver stops being so prickly.
EDIT: Put Alistair & Nate in Warden armor too because it was bugging me

If the Warden is a human circle mage, they were originally from the Amell family. So they're related to Hawke through her mother. Leandra drops a mention it if that's the case, something like "The Hero of Ferelden was one of ours."
