Description Here's a photo of a samurai costume I created a couple of years ago. When not wearing armour, this was typically what the samurai would have worn. The costume inclues a white juban, a wine coloured kosode and a pair of white hakama. Hakama are a traditional type of pleated pants. A samurai's hakama had seven pleats in them. Each pleat was meant to symbolize one the virtues a samurai should ideally embody: Honour, courage, loyalty, integrity, benevolence, courtesy and honesty.

This costume was made entirely out of 100% cotton

love it! one thing i have to point out though:

if the sword's a katana, then the blade should be facing upwards. however, it its a *tachi*, then there's no problem with it facing downwards. (sorry, weapon lover here. especially ancient japanese weapons. )

Thank you! I have to admit, I know nothing about Japanese weaponry. I was just going with whatever way kept the dragon's head upright. I know better for next time now.

Thank you! Unfortunately, I got the pattern online nearly 10 years ago. I think this is the website I got it from: [link] though I'm not certain.

Beautiful! And I'm pleased to see you incorporate menswear as well. =^.^= Btw, love the info you include about everything. I had no idea about the pleating and meanings to each. As one who studies all things Japanese myself, I should not be surprised they would incorporate such symbolic meaning into their garments. The Japanese have always been historically deeply symbolic in everything they do as their rituals in culture suggest. It's quite a priceless thing and I find it very deeply beautiful & moving!

Thank you very much! I'm afraid I don't know much about swords.
