Good morrow, my fellow deviants.
While it may be late in the hour, I figured I may reappear in the night to present you all with a new art piece.
In all seriousness, it has been about two weeks since I last uploaded a work on DeviantArt. School, both of my jobs (yes, crazy enough, I have two), and my social life have all been pretty darn hectic. But I knew that was not going to stop me from eagerly sharing this piece, along with some in-progress ones, with the rest of you. I have had zero time to truly organize what it is I wish to do as I have been crazy busy, it feels non-stop by this rate. There will come a time I finally reach an end point where I will be given leisure to do as I please. One of these days.. But that can all be discussed later on.
Behold, one and all, a piece that took me very little time to do compared to some of my previous pieces (if you aren't counting the time I wasn't working on it, as I had to set it aside in order to get through other things). This one was an absolute blast to do, nevertheless. And there was a prompt for me to work off of, which made it just a little easier.

The word leech, like all other words, have been changed and modified over the years.
Initially, it was used in a lot of medical terms to describe professors, the process of blood-letting, and the famed parasitic worm we all know and love. With time came change, and that change came in the form of rather offensive slang to describe, or rather insult, a person who emotionally or mentally drains a person after clinging onto them. These individuals will use a person's ideas and shape them into their own, sucking away their ideas until they are disposed of. During this day and age it may seem perfectly reasonable to relate this context to that of a negative sense.
But my favourite one is derived of the aquatic organism that dwells in lakes and latches onto your skin. They appear to heavily rely on blood, not much different than that of the tapeworm or other parasitic forms of oligochaetes annelida. The medieval times, the Dark Ages, and the Renaissance have always been of interest to me, so I knew when the prompt was given I had to do what I needed to. I set off working on this knowing I knew I had to base it off of the incredible mural artworks in church buildings of the day, hence the reason the colours are far lighter than the wood and marble framing. The woman in the front is standing still with leeches stuck to her chest and neck, sucking her blood from her body. In a traditional sense, this is how evil spirits were supposedly driven from the soul. Leeches are not deadly either, but they are quite an unsanitary medical practice these days.
In the background the light transitions from a purple-blue mix to a more saturated red colour. This is because I place the more neutral term in the foreground and leave negative connotations in the back. The composition is that of a person, but instead of a human head it's that of a leech (I think I've said that word enough already as it is, haha). I thought the figure looming over the lady fitted with the history of the word well. You have someone standing behind you, clinging onto you, and taking your words and thoughts away for the sake of their benefits and none more. Gothic themes had to come into play for this work of art, otherwise it would be incomplete without the sheer dark element. While it is colourful, the things it entails are certainly not. Each idea came to mind as I was researching the contexts to the word more. It all came together in this piece and I have never been happier with a simple, less elabourate piece.
This took minimal effort and I wound up meeting my deadline, which makes me feel REAL good. It's a confidence-booster and motivation-booster, as it furthers my mind to want to come up with more pieces. Speaking of which.. I do have quite a bit planned. Though I haven't had much time to get to it, rest assured, there are loads of ideas floating in my head. Concept artwork may or may not be shared here (depending on how I feel), if not I'll be sure I have them up on Instagram for you to view. Looking forward to the day I am able to CATCH A BREAK and share it all with you. It'll get there. Stay tuned, though!

Been hard keeping up with this wonderful website considering how difficult of a time organization has been. I do hope that all of you are doing well these days! Let me know what's been up, tell me about your day. Heck, just say 'hi', even if you're new. You might not know this but it always puts a smile on my face seeing people engage with not only my artwork but with me as well. I'm always down to make new friends and learn new things, so do not be hesitant please! I appreciate all of the support I have been receiving lately and I encourage more of it. This IS my job, so I would love it if you did share it with your friends and family. Spread the work, in other words. It means the world to me even when you view it for but a moment. I appreciate each and every single one of you.
Working hard to get some character art done, hoping I am able to finish it soon. Thank you all again for your ongoing and incoming support. It means the entire world to me, and I mean it. If you like this piece I once again hope you are able to share it however you wish to others, show it off, display it, anything. It is a huge help, I hope you understand.
I wanna get some projects done now while my inspiration runs fresh.. so I hope to catch you soon.
'Till then.. see y'all in the next post.~
