Description
Combining two of my favourite subjects - paleoart and the kaiju genre - I decided to draw a sketch of the skull of the original Godzilla, from 1954 in the manner of which many dinosaur skulls are.

The skull is roughly 7.6 metres tall by 11.2 metres long, 1.9 times the length of what is to my knowledge the longest known animal skull, a 5.8 metre specimen belonging to a blue whale.

I chose to interpret the skull as that of some bizarre crocodilian, thus allowing for an explanation of the creature's more unconventional ear structure; extant crocodilians have ears that are located higher upon their heads, and have more of a defined structure, than common reptiles. This also fit with G'54's cone-like teeth, and prominent brow.

Now, this is still a loose explanation, as the Godzilla suits were designed to depict the external image without consideration of internal structure; a reasonable practice considering the fact that nobody was going to be dissecting the suits to figure out their anatomy. Still, it was a fun exercise, and gave a unique opportunity to me as an artist.

And, hey, at least it came out looking like a reasonably plausible creature.
