Happy (early) birthday to Alien Queen! (Her birthday is on July 30th, but I didn’t want to wait until Tuesday to post this because I’m impatient.)I’m sort of glad I wasn’t alive during the 1980’s. I think my eyes would have bled.
Anyway, first “official” thing I’ve drawn after coming out of this past six-ish weeks of art block. I’m not that good at working with vastly different super saturated colors, but because I recently saw season three of Stranger Things, I wanted to do something that screamed 1980s and, of course, I had to include bright colors for that. I have to thank PotatoPhoenix and PhyloSallas for the advice on the colors! I probably wouldn’t have been able to choose good enough/saturated enough colors without their help.

I've seen this before on Twitter, but I didn't get to appreciate the details until I saw it here! This piece definitely pops out, but the colors work so well. I can almost imagine some upbeat song playing in the background haha. She looks great in that fashion too ^_^ You certainly broke through that art block with this piece!

Retro Alien Girl :3 I love it!
I like the whole composition with this illustration. Her pose is very fitting, her outfit is very unique to that retro style and all the colors are well balanced. They all contrast pretty well, while being expressive with the retro style in mind. It just screams Mina.

Ahhh I love this so much! The saturated colors look amazing - this definitely screams 80's (at least... from what little I know of the 80's lol), and her pose and expression are super cute.

Oh, I am...? I feel like I don't get it at all lol. Man, that's totally me, though! I spend forever messing around with colors. Sometimes I find it helps to figure out a palette before starting the sketch. I've noticed when I do that, sometimes my art looks better than when I decide colors after I've finished sketching. Not always though, but most of the time.
Speaking of color theory, I've had this tab open for a day or two now and I keep forgetting to watch it, haha. Kinda perfect that YouTube recommended a color theory video to me recently: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvgCkH…

Yeah, it saves a step to have a palette in mind. It can be a pain to mess around with colors after you've already started the drawing.
