Wow you know I only know about this because I watched a show (documentary?) about it many many MANY years ago. And yet still completely remembered it when I saw this here. That's really awesome to know you have it! Beautiful I must say, I'm a bit jealous~

Oh I would just love to watch a documentary on it, I've always wanted to walk up to someone with the same condition and comment on what I see to myself, then have them turn around and say... "Oh my god, I am not alone".

to me the music make see involuntarys images, make stories, for example if i hear pathetique of Beethoven mi mind make the "movie" of a strom an every note is a raindrop, every raindrop have the same length as the note, and as I can see them i can play it in the piano, and i can see the color of the raindrops too, this song is gray an every raindrop is a little white and blue one, and some times the songs have their own flavor, this one taste like is you have a little piece of ice in you mouth and is my favorite one when i have to play something.
Every composer whit their styles have his particular color, mozart's is pink, Dvorak's is green,Chopin is white... etc.. all this i descovery when i was tiny but in that time scare me couse my friends and family can't see that colors the "movies" or taste those flavors, but is very fun now!
that is why i love play and hear music, instrumental (classic) specially. (sorry 4 my bad english, ins not my native language)

That is lovely, I can see your clear affection for music. There are many different levels and types of my condition and more commonly it is inner feeling. Taste is a high form as well, when you taste things you see colors in your mind. It's sort of a way your brain is categorizing the differences in flavor. For me I can actually see color floating in the world around me it is not truly a construct of my mind. I believe everyone has a little bit of this condition because humans naturally are highly developed to understand and find a way to connect to the sounds, tastes, touches, smells, sites, etc. of the world.

Cool, that's awesome...I used to have mild synesthesia, but then I strenghtened it and opened my brain to a new dimension...Well, several actually XD.
The brain sure is amazing, and there are many power-granting secrets hidden within its many layers.

Synesthesia... How unique.
I rarely ever hear such a thing, this is beautifully made and makes me understand a bit more on the way things are perceived with people who have it.

Thank you, to me it is nothing short of normality since I can only honestly experience normal vision if sitting myself in front of a movie and seeing through another's eyes. I honestly never tend to think about it, since it has been apart of me for a while. Although I do tend to feel very alone in the world at times, and would love discussing this with people who can see the same things as I do. Otherwise, I have nothing to share most of the time and often feel very deformed because of that major difference. Thank you for your compliment.

This is an intriguing view. I do not have Synesthesia myself, though I do experience music through color and visual pattern. For this reason, I actually am inclined to avoid listening music when around others, particularly my preferred of classical, for I find myself engrossed and unaware of my environment when viewing the sounds.
Absolute pitch is also an ability which I possess.
Perhaps due to these factors, I was drawn to the violin at a young age. I would enjoy playing the piano as well, but unfortunately do not own the resources at the time.
Have you taken formal music theory, Leustante?

I am unsure of whether or not I possess some form of synesthesia, but I've always been able to visualize various shapes, patterns and colours based on specific melodies and rhythms whenever I listen to music.
I had always dismissed these involuntary thoughts because I believed that artists in general possessed highly developed visual perception.

I am afraid I have no choice but to side with your disagreement argument as to whether or not this is in fact related to a form of synesthesia. However, it does have a unique form of linkage to the areas in which this condition is raised. The neural transmitters in the brain have a similar presentation to the outcomes you have described here with your high visual interpretations. However, this condition is more based on optical senses, where as your brain interperates images/music with memories or organization: though this is seemingly how synesthesia is explained in words. Though they are based off of different backgrounds of cause, they behave in a similar way as they are forms of subconscious cataloging of what we interperate in our brains. For instance, in my mind I organize subjects/logic in color codes but this is a subconscious reaction to how I choose to think. Which in return allows me to configure my oral and written form of explanation; piecing them together s such. This is a form of this condition, but an addition to what it is in full. You organize based off of how your brain wants to visually interperate it in order to understand it and apply to to your personal benefit, which is something done in a different region away from where this condition starts. If I.. make any sense at all.

No, this made perfect sense to me. In fact, now I have a much clearer idea of how, and why it is I see such things and can better discern one condition from the other. Still, there is much more reading that I need to do on the subject.
I appreciate you taking the time to write such a thorough explanation.

Much appreciated Skyrage10. My aim was to produce something of an individual stance where a few collective members of my audience can involve themselves and contrast with their own characteristics to what differences are seen in others. As this piece was indeed inspired from a rare physical condition that I have called synesthesia.

Well, thank you for being open to sharing C: Though I don't really want to know every single thing about you; it would kinda ruin this shadowy L image I have of you, but I wouldn't mind having some idea of the extent of your abilities, intellectual or otherwise. For instance, I heard that you are ambidextrous, if I'm not mistaken. I'm ambidextrous too, but by applied learning. I'm naturally a right-handed person. were you a natural-born ambidextrous or are you a learned ambidextrous like me? Also, do you know any foreign languages?
For some reason, I like to mingle with multilingual people. I've always had this fascination with languages. I'm currently self-learning Japanese and German, but the progress is painfully slow. I'm really limited with learning resources :C

Interesting for you to have had these particular admirations shared with my own spectrum of education. In regards to languages, I in fact am fluent in French, Japanese, Thai (aprox. 75%), and German; and for English I practice a British form of literary usage with its occasional applied writing skills which helps me develop my thoughts more uniquely. Of course being a person of my age it may not be entirely possible to be "fluent" per se in foreign languages because it takes many years to develop a full inquiry on all of the character uses/classical language types. For instance, English speakers study English in a diverse and complex way even though they are already fluent in their country. I still of course have a bit more to learn. I would rather not be arrogant and claim I know these languages 100%, but I do know quite a sum of it to have a conversation.
If I recall, I have never thought too deeply into the nature of my hands though I would say that this ambidextrous characteristic I possess would have to be habit born from how I articulated myself as a child. I also have a rather.... Awkward way of writing. In fact, I believe I may be the only person in the world who raised himself writing and drawing in this way: I bend my thumb completely band and hold my pencil like I would with my left upside down facing me. I will upload a photograph of this for you as an example. You may enjoy seeing a different characteristic of human activity seeing this appears to be your interest.

I'm sorry but I looked at your comments while scrolling down and I found the one explaining synesthesia to Midnightcookie, who says she too has the same condition.
I honestly didn't even know such a thing existed.
That's really... extraordinary. I feel a little jealous. I mean I absolutely love music, I play the piano too and I love it personally. every time I hear a truly perfect sound the inside of my ears feel tense and it feels as though the pressure in them has changed but its nothing cool like this. XD; ( I love it when the do that though. ^^)
To see something color coded with the natural pull-in that music already does would be an amazing feel I would think. I get exited and tense thinking about such a feeling. X3
So I wanted to ask you, do you see people's voices too? Or only amplified sounds of notes- such as piano noise. (you know how the note isn't dirty but clear coming from a instrument rather that someones voice.)

Leustante In reply to hairEbunny [2011-03-01 22:05:06 +0000 UTC]
The piano is a very unique collection of tones, I enjoy playing the piano for how it allows my mind to relax. I must admit, I do enjoy the way in which you described the affects of tones that impact you physically by ear. I favor explaining music in the way it communicates with our bodies and minds. I do believe that such feelings can only be interperated and collected through a musical standpoint. If I alone cannot express such emotions with my body, the music that my hands make will speak for what I cannot. It is a brilliant concept.
Noting your question, I do in fact see certain color tones as a key for memorizing/evaluating what my brain responds to in that person's voice. That color will stay the same, however dependent on how they use it the tones may alter slightly or become more transparent. I pray this makes sense to you. When performing on the piano, I tend to create a pattern of tones with two or more keys for that specific note, but when hitting them separately that sound is coded respectively as its own. As a more solidified example of how I communicate with the musical notes.
I hope your week is progressing well. Please respond whenever time is convenient for you. I enjoy your company.

Thank you so much for letting me reply at a convenient time. That it definitely something I worry about when having discussions. Weather or not they'll lose interest when I reply late. I am sorry for the late reply.
Now... for your summery on the way music makes us feel. That is a beautiful way of putting it. Music does effect us in ways that nothing else in the world can. A different form of expression.
It's like you said, it speaks for us. It is something on its own that we can relate to by calling upon it, but its still not our ours to keep. Not part of our body, yet it still expresses so much of ourselves. : ) I enjoyed that little speech.
As for the topic of your ability to see certain tones. let me try to get this straight. Please be patient with me since I have no understanding of your experiences. ^^ ;;
When you hit one note it makes a different color tone rather than if you where to hit multiple notes like a chord. If you hit a chord it will come out with a completely different pattern of tones than hitting one of the notes that were a part of that chord. (example:hitting a C would be create a different tone than hitting a C chord, which would make pattern of a tone.)
Though I'm a little confused by the word pattern. What type of patterns do you see? Random colors that come out the same if hitting the same note(s) repetitively? (Example: if hitting a C chord repetitively you see the same colors over and over again in the same pattern.) I know that when I get that perfect sound I was talking about I can repeat that note over and over again (but only in the exact same way) and the pressure repeats as well in the same way hitting the inside of my ears over and over at the same time. I'm not saying they're the same thing but...
It would only be natural for you to see the same types of patterns and tones when hearing the same sound over and over again. he X)
Please answer my questions soon as it is convenient for you as well. It's only fare. You can go ahead and take a week to reply if you want. Again I'm sorry for my late reply and I too enjoy your company, so please don't lose interest and not reply like most do.
