Description For some explanation why I luvs them mad scientists [link]

Some of my favourite ones here:
From left to right:

Master (Doctor Who). As for which incarnation of him, it's the first one (Roger Delgado), my favourite.

Victor Frankenstein (Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus) Ths story has been re-told and re-made countless times, but I prefer the original book.

William and Annette Birkin (Resident Evil). This series has so many nutty scientists, one of the reasons I like it, but the Birkins are perhaps closest to the archetypical mad scientists, plus they get points for being a evil scientist couple.

Otto Octavius, Aka Doctor Octopus (Spider-Man) This was the first time I tried drawing the movie version of his actuators. More practise is needed.

Herbert West (Herbert West-Reanimator) . I've never seen any of the movies, and the book is not among the best of Lovecraft, but I read it as a kid, and it made quite an impression on me. His appearance here is based on the book-version, and how I always imagined him.

Henry Jekyll (Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde). In my opinion, the most complex and interesting of the characters presented here. I won't go into the subtleties of the novel in question here, but if you haven't read the book, do so.
And of course Jekyll/Hyde is the prototype of the scientist who changes himself into a monster.

These are not the only ones I like, and I'm sure there are ones I have completely forgotten. Who are your favourite evil/mad scientists in fiction? Or not necessarily even evil or morally questionable? I'd like to know, especially if you can point out any good female characters in this category.

I know most of them, and I agree.

I've been thinking of doing a third of these, which would include at least Dr. Horrible, Dr. Insano, Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Dr. Doom.

It is a good one. It's been years since I read it though, I should read it again one of these days.

I've always preferred the Saxon incarnation of Master. Great pic. I love them all so much. <3 Maybe Doctor Crane should have had an appearance, though?

Lieju In reply to thescarecrowdrcrane [2010-02-01 08:30:17 +0000 UTC]

I like the Saxon version too, but he is different. Which is good, and the way it should be, but still, Delgado was awesome.

Frasier or Niles?

You mean Scarecrow, right? I know of him, but he isn't among my favourites, mainly because I haven't read/seen much of the stuff he's in.

GamineMadcap [2010-01-31 20:56:33 +0000 UTC]

You get extra points for having the Master, Otto, Jekyll, and Frankenstein in one picture. *grins* This is great.

My favorite mad scientist is SimmsMaster--who was just flat out crazy, and Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz.

I've never heard of Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. I googled him, and it seems I haven't heard of the show he was in either.

Not at all, in fact I'd like to see that.

I have a feeling I made Jekyll too young. It's been a while since I read the book.

DryBonesReborn In reply to Lieju [2010-01-31 18:29:08 +0000 UTC]

The Hyde one is cool. I'm not too familiar with Resident Evil. Is it supernatural horror game?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lieju In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-01-31 18:39:01 +0000 UTC]

It's a series of Survival horror games (with some more actiony spin-offs) where you must survive a horde of zombies and mutants created by evil scientists working for evil corporation Umbrella.

Except in RE4 where you try to save president's daughter from Spanish cultists who have brain-washing parasites.

The games are fun to play, but a big part of the reason I like the series is the very silly plots and bad acting.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DryBonesReborn In reply to Lieju [2010-01-31 18:42:12 +0000 UTC]

Umbrella? o0 That's not a very scary name. M.E.N.A.C.E sound scarier.

weird.

Well are the scientists using Nazi experiments or just turning people into mutants? Is there any wicca in it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

SilverGryphon8 In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-01-31 19:17:33 +0000 UTC]

The resident Wiccan now has to glare at you, Bonesie. WICCA DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT. Wicca is a nature-based religion that uses associations and user-directed energy to accomplish an end in a manner similar to praying. No monsters, no demons, no turning people into zombies, none of that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DryBonesReborn In reply to SilverGryphon8 [2010-01-31 19:20:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh, sorry. >.< Please don't glare. I forgot the correct word for what they used.
No zombies?

Well was thinking the whole love spell or what not. I guess I see to many movies where there like 'just cast a love spell and he's yours.' or if you don't like someone then 'use this one'

Then what did the Nazi's use? I heard some kind of physicic powers or what not, experiments with twins.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Lieju In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-01-31 18:55:44 +0000 UTC]

...? Why would there be Wicca?

There's no magic, everything is explained with viruses. Well, sequel by sequel the viruses have gotten more magical and not particularly rooted in any real life science.

The evil company finds a virus that can make people zombies, and use it to make weird mutants (like hunters [link] , that are human/reptile hybrids) to sell as weapons or take over the world or whatever. The plot is both very simple and extremely complicated, with re-makes, prequels and ret-conning and a great number of characters, most of which don't have much backstory.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DryBonesReborn In reply to Lieju [2010-01-31 19:08:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh, well usually when there are zombies some mention of Nazi experiments with the occult are seen like in Return to Castle Wolfenstein (was addicted to that game).

But this seems more like "The Thing" another game I liked Sounds awsome. I some how thought it was like "Silent Hill" Which do you reoccmand I should check out to play? I don't have gamecube. Should I go with Resident evil 2?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lieju In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-01-31 19:20:29 +0000 UTC]

It's not as psychological as Silent Hill.

Re2 is considered to be the best of the classic games. RE4 completely reinvented the gameplay, and it's a completely different type of a game, more focused on action and less puzzles. Both are good in different ways.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DryBonesReborn In reply to Lieju [2010-01-31 19:21:29 +0000 UTC]

Is it turnstyle? Shooter? Team? How does it play?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lieju In reply to DryBonesReborn [2010-01-31 19:42:22 +0000 UTC]

In the classic games you spend most of your time trying to figure out where you need to use this particular golden emblem thing, while doing your best avoiding zombies.
[link]

Re4 introduced a much better combat-system, so fighting your way out is the thing to do.

In your picture:
Herbert West (although I only know the movies, because I couldn't find a copy of the books so far)
With the others I'm not so familiar, I know them all, but I've never read/seen their story.

One of my fave ethically challenged scientists is Prof. Tomoe [link] from Sailor Moon (kinda embarrassing)
