Description

My 5th and final painting for my participation in #WorldWatercolorMonth & #WorldWatercolorgroup for July 2018. I started this painting after midnight and just kept working on it a little at a time once every few hours throughout the day, so it was all done (and photographed, and uploaded) today, July 31st. I did digitally color-correct and crop the photo of it, so hopefully it’s a good representation of the real-life painting. Obviously, my “Shield-of-Linden-Wood” watermark was also something I added digitally. Otherwise, it’s 100% traditional. I’m so happy that I was able to squeeze in one final painting for World Watercolor Month before the month is over!!!

I looked at this reference photo while painting my piece freehand (no tracing): Goldfish by magic-ban

Thank you so much,

I think I’m getting a better handle on my aquamarkers! To make this piece, I sketched out the fish in watercolor pencil, then painted it all with my aquamarkers (with water and paintbrushes, obviously), using masking liquid for the body’s scales, and finally adding a few final thin details to the tail and above the eye with my white gelly-roll pen. I think this might be my favourite watercolor painting I've made this month (of the 5 I made), and it's definitely the best of the ones in which I used the watercolor markers: I'm much happier with how this turned out than with how my fox and eagle turned out, admittedly.

Neither this painting nor prints of it are available for sale. I created this piece to practice (a) illustrating fish (good practice for mermaids!!!) and (b) painting with my new watercolor-markers. (So, yes, this piece was created with watercolor pencils, watercolor markers, water, and brushes on watercolor paper.) At this time and for the purposes of this piece, I want to focus on getting good at drawing animals instead of spending time attempting to paint scenery, hence the lack of any background in my painting.

Please feel free to critique this piece to your heart’s content. If you’d like to point out something I did well, and/or something I did poorly and need to work on in my future pieces, I welcome the feedback!

Soli Deo Gloria!

Thank you so much! (You're good with the warm gold color schemes, so I will take your comment as high praise indeed.)
