Never made a formal sheet for the Sydney's Pokemon Adventure Characters. Plan to do so this summer.Her new bag and new belt may be a bit of a spoiler, but oh well, I really wanted to upload this and not wait months lol

As someone who's grown up in warm weather and wears shoes whenever going out places, I actually stopped wearing them at home because I'm in and out a lot, and would have to take my shoes off each time so not to trail dirt in the house. That also means walking through (sometimes deep) snow and ice barefoot (because don't wanna get socks soaked either), and it actually doesn't take a lot to get used to it lol. I actually find the snow pretty comfy and warm compared to the sidewalk in the winter. Mind you I'm not even a devout barefooter, but the cold/snow isn't actually that bad. I just had a little exposure over this winter and I'm totally fine with going out in even a t-shirt and shorts xP
Could be that I do actually have high metabolism. But I don't think people would react too weirdly if you did decide to make her like Maylene (who you find jogging through the snow to Snowpoint City barefoot in Platinum). I was gonna reference Russians, who often have no problem being barefoot up in snowy mountains/forests and stuff, but they're used to the cold. Me on the other hand, I can tell you I'm not. But with a little exposure, it's actually not as bad as it seems. Tbh it's really refreshing xD
Not saying she should. Though it'd be an awesome arc if, over time, she became used to it and started going barefoot more during weather she's not used to, becoming more accustomed to it to where it no longer bothers her, to show her growth/experience with traveling.
It could even be called attention to with her trying to stay barefoot in a snowy area (since I don't think Pallet Town gets snow), trying to tough it out since she doesn't like shoes, but then begrudgingly having to dress warmer, but trying every now and then to get used to it and overcome it. Idk. I'm just spitballing ideas. Imo it'd add a lot of character. One thing I thought would be funny is doing some kind of gag with the Running Shoes guy too lol.
Tbh I hate shoes and have no problem not wearing them, which is part of why I tried out not wearing them in the snow this winter and found it not that bad. Only reason I wear then when I go out places is not to cause any kind of fuss or draw attention. Sydney's better than me in that aspect. But I'd definitely find it believable if she got used to winter weather barefoot, because even someone like me could xP

I thought about doing a gag with my character Cookie giving her shoes and her rejecting them but I ultimately cut it out. Kanto in general doesn't seem like it gets snow at all, so with Sydney being used to warm weather I can't see her going barefoot in snowy areas. Her not being able to handle cold is something that will come up which is why she has boots for her winter outfit.Β

I could see her trying to go barefoot in the snow and ultimately giving up and begrudgingly wearing boots lol. Though yeah I can say from experience that it's something that's not too hard to get used to after a little exposure. People imagine the snow is worse than what it is. Our yard has rough sticks and stems that hurt, so I actually like when there's snow covering it, and if there's just small patches of snow throughout the yard, I purposely step in them to avoid the grass xD Unless it's so cold that my face would freeze anyway, I'd sooner put on shoes to walk through the grass/forest than the snow. It's so much more painful x( And walking barefoot in the snow is something I only just started this winter lol.
I even prefer "skating" on the ice barefoot, because I can mold my feet against the slippery bumps and also get to fully use my toes for balance. It is cold, but sooooo much easier not to slip and fall that way xP Not that I go out to a rink barefoot, but when there's ice outside, it's harder to walk/skate on it with shoes/skates than barefoot. Use of toes make all the difference lol.

Sydney usually wore socks around the house and shoes regularly as a child because of how she was raised up by her parents.Β Shortly after moving in with her brother at age 10, she started to go barefoot more often. Her brother is more laid back than her parents and her barefeet was more of a sign of anarchy, did it just cause she realized she could. And then she just got used to it. Being barefoot is just her preference but she does wear footwear when in extra cold/winter weather.
