Description Marian and Sir Guy of Gisborne. When I sketched this out, it had a theme of revenge, kind of? And it wound up with a theme of forgiveness. Which I think it just as it should be.

How many drawings have I done like this? Don’t we all have that desire sometimes to care for our favorite heartbroken characters, hold their troubled heads and say everything will be alright? In the end, everything will be alright.

Poor Guy, he needed to be loved.
And the only person who seemed to like and care for him died in the same episode she appeared
Beautiful drawing.

Very nice. The expressions are subtle enough to make an impact, but not enough to be overdramatic.

Just when i thought you couldn't get any better, you started drawing Richard Armitage. Sorry I'm a longtime lurker and finally had to come out and say how beautiful all your work is! Honestly, it's a pleasure to watch your stuff.
Have you seen North & South yet? So much Armitage-y goodness n' brooding haha

You should try again! Don't give up. It always takes me a few tries before I feel like I can get a person's face the way I want to. He does have a super hard face to draw, because he can look at times very sharp and also very sweet and soft. I'd love to see what you do!

Stop making me cry! I really wanted Marion to realize the effect she had on Guy and that she could work to slowly bring him away from the dark side--- she just wasn't mature enough to process it.

On another note, my boyfriend loves snuggles like this, it's the sweetest thing. Knowing how sweet it is to have a man rest his head on your shoulder and relax makes this picture all the more heart wrenching. Poor Guy never got a good snuggle.

lily-fox In reply to LizAdeniji [2013-04-01 00:11:39 +0000 UTC]

Gisborne could have used a good woman (or man, anybody, really) to cuddle him and tell him he was loved. And as much as I love the IDEA of Marian and Guy, that would never have worked out. His love was jealous and possessive and angry, and that ain't love. You shouldn't live in fear that the man your marry might have you beheaded if you fuck up, know what I'm sayin'? I know Robin was a twerp, mostly, but I liked him and Marian.

Poor Gisborne. Poor, horrible Gisborne.

LizAdeniji In reply to lily-fox [2013-04-02 03:11:19 +0000 UTC]

Gisborne was pretty awful, and rather unlikable after hearing about his attempts to murder the king--- however I think he had a long history of being so sure that everyone in the world was a horrible immoral person and Marion failed to prove to him that not everyone was horrid, which is what he was hoping for, I think. He botched it up by being a huge creeper.
She wasn't so great herself though. While Marion did fight for the side of right, she did so in a very selfish, spoiled manner (something she and Robin bickered about frequently-- what a couple of brats they were). Loved Marion, but Locksley was in terrible need of some wise older women. There just weren't enough around to give all those snippy young ladies some good advice.

At least poor Guy was given a heroes death in the series, and they didn't go the humiliation route of "Prince of Thieves" and "Robin of Sherwood", or just the brutal murder from the "The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood" classic book.

I like to pretend Meg made it that night in the woods and they ran off together. :<

For me, I can't get past the fact that Gisborne abandoned his own illegitimate newborn in the fucking woods. Like, that's some shit Vaisey would pull, but I just didn't buy it from Gisborne. Straight away, I thought, These writers don't know what they want to do with Guy. They're all over the place.

Wise women, for true, they could have used. Not like Marian had a lot of role models or anything, but I thought she did pretty good for being on her own, basically, and so young, and having to take care of her sick father, deal with an outlaw boyfriend and eel out of the at times rather rapey advances of the local taxmaster, all while walking the fine line of political subterfuge.

LizAdeniji In reply to lily-fox [2013-04-03 20:22:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh, wow, I forgot about the baby thing. Yeah, they did bounce all over the place with his temperament. I really wish they had planned and written whole season at once. I always thought it was a bit ridiculous how Much basically pledged himself to a servant girl in the beginning of the series, but then we never see her again. This seemed to simply serve the purpose of having him around to be the subject of everyone's jokes concerning his uselessness and lack of manliness. I thought it was very stupid, considering his veteran status. It also meant they didn't have to write a different, gentler type of woman. All the women in Robin Hood were crazy tom-boy bitches. While I like the "strong woman" idea I think they failed to recognize the variety of people they could have-- as they did with men.

While they did try to explore different characters, I think there were a few with such conflicting sides of themselves, I think they forgot sometimes that people like Guy were ONE character and not two. I think Much got the same raw deal.

Thank you, I'm glad you like this! Yeah, poor man. Poor, horrible Gisborne.

Once I read this fantasy comic where a young magical guy fell in love with this sweet, kind girl, but she was afraid of his wrathful temper. He kept destroying shit because she wouldn't love him. So a more powerful magical woman came and turned him into a puppy, until he learned to be patient and good. The girl loved him so much and cared for the puppy.

Someone ought to turn Gisborne into a puppy!

Oooh my Lord, this is...this is...oh the feelz, they come on strong. The theme of forgiveness shines bright here, and the pained look on Guy's face is just too much for my poor, overburdened heart...he is clearly still haunted by all he's done, and looks like he is almost having a hard time absorbing Marian's forgiveness, as he has said many times before, he cannot forgive himself. This is brilliant work, your attention to detail is astounding. Love it! Faved!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lily-fox In reply to HeadmistressMercedes [2013-03-31 04:11:04 +0000 UTC]

I imagine it would be impossible for him to really accept anyone's forgiveness, even if she magically could come back and forgive him. Maybe that's why he was so fond of Meg? She saw good in him, and he had never really wronged her. Somebody to start fresh with, yeah? Such a shame.

I'm glad it made you feel so strongly. That's the best compliment I can think of. C:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HeadmistressMercedes In reply to lily-fox [2013-03-31 04:31:03 +0000 UTC]

Agreed whole-heartedly. I honestly think that Guy wasn't a truly bad person, even though some of what he did is simply unforgivable. But most of those things he was ordered to do, so the blame rests on someone else, too...the fact that he killed Marian of his own accord is horrific to him, because he can't justify it or share the burden.

And yes, Meg was someone whom he never wronged, so he didn't need to feel guilty around her, and the fact that, despite all she knew about him, she still came back to try and save was...w-was just...*sniffle*...th-then she...she...*sniffle*...no, no I can't...*curls up and cries in a corner*

Aww yer welcome, hun! Keep up the awesome work!
