Description Been helping out with the club (*PsychedelicTreasures ) so long, I forgot to contribute For someone I know who likes mushrooms and butterflies.

Done in Photoshop using a brush [link] from ~avgust . It's funny, although this was 100% 2d I can sure see a lot of influence from the 3dStudioMax program that I used for years.

Now that's what I call the orgy of colors! It would be nice to see this in 3D!
How did you colorize the butterflies? One by one? Man, it must have took some time! I know a few tricks in PS but this one would definately give me a headache!
Anyway, I summarize my opinion: Dude, cooool!

Yo bro! This would actually be easy to render in 3d and if I had one of my old apps loaded I'd do it. Cool idea!
I used the linked butterfly brush in many colors to paint the background. My brush was set at a low rate to space the butterflies out. Then I created a mushroom shape and with that selected used the Spherize filter. It rounded the cap butterfly texture. Then I applied the Plastic Wrap filter but Faded it set on Difference just strong enough to make the colors go psycho. Then I Auto Leveled to re-brighten the colors. (That's one of my personal favorite tricks The whole shroom looked like that bright colored part at the top. I airbrushed in some shadows on the shroom to round it into 3d. Then I painted on some highlights that look like 2 lights shining down and the smoky area at the bottom.
I really like that it all came from that simple background and am now thinking about ways to use this to do some new works. So glad you liked it! This would be my second piece inspired by *inthename . She's my lucky charm!!

Ah, the plastic wrap effect. Of course! Now that's why it was familiar! I used to play a lot with it, honestly, maybe too much. Though that was long ago... (A few months. ) I rather use the blending options (inner/outter shadow/glow, pillow & emboss, etc.), especially the outter shadow. It's particularly suitable for shapes, since it can flawlessly imitate soft pen lines.
Lucky you! You've found yourself a muse! Life becomes much easier that way!
And thanks for the well detailed answer!

Awwww, thanks! But incidentally, this is not your surprise that I previously mentioned. I wanted to do a new color sub for the club. I happened to think of you when the way to bend the mushroom pattern as well as the pattern itself all hit me. Glad you like it!

And I dunno what's up with the Beatles. My best friend loves them so I usually give him a hard time about them and rarely listen to them. But being a musician, I respect any artist with exceptional talent.

There's some kind of magic in even the simplest things they wrote; I wasn't even familiar with a lot of the stuff on the earliest albums, and now that's the source of some of my best nourishment...

Locomule In reply to SRaffa [2008-06-27 14:53:18 +0000 UTC]

I'd say that's true more often than not with many musical artists. That's why I'd advise friends that if they did sign with a big label, live off the same amount of money you always have plus a thousand or two. Put the rest in the bank till people get tired of you. That would help.
My current songs on repeat- Blind Melon- Tones of Home, Phantom Planet- Big Brat, Radiohead- Bodysnatchers, Queen- Death on Two Legs, Avenged Sevenfold- Almost Easy

I'm a huge (if sudden) fan of The Magnetic Fields, and a few days ago a deviant turned me on to Death Cab for Cutie's "Transatlanticism"-- I was familiar with the band, but I'd never heard them sounding as good as this...

What is your favorite Magnetic Fields?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SRaffa In reply to Locomule [2008-06-30 20:03:21 +0000 UTC]

It's all really good, but Distortion's the one that started it for me-- there's a single called "California Girls" from the Distortion album that might tell you everything you want to know... The Magnetic Fields is just one of Stephin Merritt's bands-- the others are The Gothic Archies, The 6ths, and Future Bible Heroes; the guy is just an encyclopedia of songs...
