Say Sirraz my sweet, who's that facing you? I think i might have an inkling...Found this wonderful ref a good while back, but ever got around to making an image based of it until now. It is for an art trade with one of my best friends, *DV-Skitz , one of few whom I still fit in for art trades now and then.
As per usual I cannot really give you a time estimate, allthough I can say it was made in two sessions, and a rough guess is cirka 10 hours total
Photoshop CS and my Intuos helped me make this, and I think it turned out pretty ok. Kept some of the painterly feel on the cloudscape in the background, and went for some drama with the far away lightning bolts. The striking light in the front is probably do to another lightning bolt rather then a break in the clouds, even if the general lightning is warm, which is what i as going for.
Not sure about the mane and tail, they feel maybe a bit too sleek, even if the wind is just breezy.

It's gorgeous, I love how silky and smooth her mane and tail look, and the background seems to look both dramatic and serene at the same time ^^
Just a question; do you do grass blades yourself by hand? Like, one blade at a time? Or do you do a mad scribble?
And also, your mane astounds me. I must've tried more than a hundered different techniques to try and get it to look remotely smooth, but it always turns out blurry and disgusting.

I use a combintaion of custom bruished and, mad scribblin, and one by one! ^^As far as the mane and tail goes - thanks, it has taken me many years to find a teqchniqe that satisfies me!

Oh no, I totally disagree if you think the mane and tail are too sleek. Oh no no, it's perfect. It creates this surreal feeling that makes the horse stand out in this strange sort of perfection against the sky... this is so gorgeous.
