nice work on the aircraft.

btw, figured out what version this aircraft is.Β  this is Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless.

US. Navy had a weird naming convention for prop aircraft.Β Β  They give it a name and model letters and count off the revision numbers.

There were 14 versions built.Β Β  There were 9 versions built during WWII starting with SBD-3 starting production in 1941.

dauntless aircraft ended production at SBD-6.

the poser model you mentioned (I looked it up)Β  includes two models, D-3 & D-5.

the Star with a red dot are the SBD-3 1941 versions, pre war issue.

Cool picture: the result is really convincing
Happy to know that you still render pictures in Poser, from time to time

Thank you … they all still feel like Poser renders, because one doesn't have to leave Poser and use Octane standalone at all. It's just like having an extra window in Poser, like the library browser.

Octane standalone? the tests I've done stood within Poser, not you?

Lynxander In reply to Phyl-CGI [2014-04-26 13:49:14 +0000 UTC]

Yes, exactly, within Poser. The Octane standalone just needs to be installed on the computer so that the Poser plug-in can access it for the scene setup and render. In other words, the Poser user doesn't need to use the Octane standalone, but it is there in the background... … which is good, because someone wrote that a complex Poser scene could end up having thousands, even tens of thousands, of nodes in Octane, which naturally is an unmanageable mess to anyone but Mr Data on the Enterprise and possibly Mr

Lol...
One question: have you any idea when their V2 will be available?

Nope … and it won't be a free updateΒ

I'm waiting because I'd like to buy a license and I prefer to wait for V2 directly.

Nice, and the Dauntlesses are instantly recognisable (at least to the air-brained like myself).

Thank you … my familiarity comes from being into assembling models as a kid and a lot of them were WW2 related. I used to read about the history of the models I built and WW2 in general… but that is over 30 years ago, so a lot of it has faded and I now need to look things up

Likewise, well except that I still have that hobby and am now in my 50s.

I'll be hitting that age bracket in a few years too. I'd no doubt still enjoy it, but other hobbies seem to take all my free time

Is it based on an actual make of plane?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynxander In reply to sweetsirin22 [2014-04-23 12:13:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the modeller doesn't say it in the "read me", but it's the Douglas Dauntless, used as a scout and dive bomber from aircraft carriers and air bases in the Pacific in WW2. If you type the name into Google image search there is a lot of pics.

OK, I just wondered. Old planes look so much more elegant than modern ones.

For me they are nostalgia trips, I loved building models as a boy 30-40 years ago

Thank you … turned it b/w and added a bit of dirt/stains with Photoshop to make it look "older"
