I was going to keep this short, but like my comics 'brief' just doesn't seem to be a thing around this here gallery. Anyways, I've organised the art so that it follows Gotland through the ages. It does skip time in places however, such as the jump from 1300's Gotland to the present day, because I like to keep some things back for later.I've created a basic profile in my stash alongside reference images/information about Gotland so if you're interested take a look. Very cute and funny. Just had to say he makes me think about the Battle of Visby (1361) though. It has a much more emotional name in Swedish: Brandskattning av Visby (Ransom of Visby in English but it doesn't really do it justice). The burning taxation of Visby, kind of. Not sure if you've read about it, but if so, apologies. Nothing is 100% definite apart from the battle itself due to lack of source material. Story goes the Danish king Valdemar fought with the Gotlanders near Visby. It had to do with trade. They lost and to save the town and goods inside Visby (supposedly from being burnt down) a tax was claimed by Valdemar, consisting of a huge portion of the city's wealth. Semi-long story short. Sad thing: supposedly the Swedish king sent a warning some months before the event, saying Denmark may attack soon.

Oh I'm aware of the events at Visby. I visited Stockholm about a year or two ago and they had a big exhibition on it, which I got some of the material from. Otherwise it's been a case of doing a lot of reading. It's a really tragic moment and yeah, sadly nothing is 100% certain. I did find a pdf of a huge and really good book which follows the diggings of various sites where bodies from the battle were found, which I can always list if you're interested. It's ok, glad you like him! All the information regarding him is featured in the stash folder I have linked in the description, and he was also featured in the last comic where he's explained there too.

What a good brother, or is he Frey's (my name for Ladonia), uncle?
This makes me wonder if Berwald and his brother's mom was a brunette. I mean they did find the grave of an Arab man in Denmark dating back 2,000 years so.... *shrugs shoulders*

Gotland is Sweden's brother. I see Ladonia as Swe's child therefore Gotland is Ladonia's uncle. This is simply my interpretation, some see Swe and Ladonia as brothers, but that's not how it'll be in my works.
Gotland's hair colour is dark auburn, so basically it's a reddish brown which leans more towards the brown side. He's not a complete redhead as someone with light auburn would be.
Edit: It doesn't help I love to go heavy on the tone in the hair so I can see the confusion. If you look at some of the ones where I haven't gone so crazy with the black there's reddish/brown highlights in there. XD

That's not something I've thought about if I must be honest. Perhaps it's something for the future, who knows?
There's a lot of factors which come into deciding that, such as who is related to one another and more specifically what relation they are, amongst other things. There are many different arguments, and one find in a country doesn't necessarily cover the scope for an entire region. We could discuss this in greater detail but as a simple answer for now, I am unlikely to consider specifiying parental figures at this point.

I have visited Gotland couple times (Visby) and it's just so cool with all ruined castles and all. And Tattoo looks great! Good luck drawing it because with those abs, most of your watchers want to see him without a shirt. XD
And believe Sweden. Long coats are cool
Gotland is sure going to fit with other nordics more then fine. ^-^ (There can't be enough crazy nation! XD)

I kinda relate to him with disliking people who show no respect to history. It always annoys me how some of my classmates ridicule something historic and sensitive. At one time, when I was reading a compilation of articles of lost civilizations by reader's digest, complete with a lot of pictures, one of my classmates asked me to show her a pyramid from the book. I showed her ruins of a ziggurat (which is technically a pyramid), and all she said was that it didn't looked like a pyramid and it only looked like shit.

I understand it very much myself. When I got to the point in school where certain classes became optional, such as history, I carried on studying it. My friend however didn't, and decided to give a big talk one morning to me about how pointless it was to study the past because it couldn't possibly benefit the future. Funnily enough if she tried to read any history she'd realise how vital it is to know past mistakes so we don't repeat them, for example. XD
