I really wanted to recreate a classic piece of Naoko Takeuchi's art with Disney characters. The nine Sailor princesses in narrow profiles ([link] ) is probably one of the better known of her pieces and in my opinion one of the most beautiful, so I chose it.I know a lot of better-known artists have recreated this picture before (*mimi-na 's rendering of Belle is the first that comes to mind), but I really wanted to try my hand at it. And as far as I know, no one has recreated this picture with Disney princesses in their canon princess dresses.
Anyway! I think it's cute and a good break from doing less colorful character designs. I may do another one, we'll see!
I had mentioned this in passing, but just to make it clear I am referencing each princess's pose from a piece of official Disney art, to get the personality of each princess. Snow White's pose can be found here -- > [link] !

The others will include Pocahontas, Mulan, and Tiana. Mulan and Pocahontas are usually not included ._. but they are some of my favorites. And I might add Alice as a bonus, because she is cute. C:

Snow White looks wonderfully elegant here. I'm continuously surprised by how well you mimic Takeuchi's style, but still change it a little. (The really bright colors here are a bit different than her usual pastel fare.)

Thank you! To be honest, I really struggled with the colors on Snow here. I uploaded a version with a single layer of soft colors first, but it looked sloppy and unlike Snow, so I doubled the color layer and I think it made things better. Maybe I ought to upload the first version to scraps and compare the two?
There's a few pieces where Takeuchi uses very, very bright colors, such as here --> [link] . And the results are ... very strange.

I think the bright colors work well here, it was just unexpected. And you're right. Just as I sent the comment I remembered some of the wild pinks that show up in Sailor Moon illos. Her newer stuff is a lot brighter too.
Still! I think it's great! Though a comparison might be neat to see too.

Oh, yeah, she's really fond of those crazy pinks, isn't she? (They remind me of the 80s...) And I checked out some of her newer stuff recently and yeah, it's really bright. And her style has changed a little, I think. She uses closed light art and thicker lines now which makes her lineart feel heavier than it did during the original run of SM.
I might upload the original version now, because I'm curious. Thank you again! :]

Thank you~ I (loosely) referenced a bit of merchandise art on google for the pose and skirt, actually, but had to modify everything to emulate fakeuchi style. XD I can't wait for Cinderella either! She'll be so pretty in SILVER. SILVER, NOT BLUE. >:[
